The Englishmen came over in the year 2005
But little did they know that we'd planned a wee surprise
Sir David scored the winner, and Windsor Park went wild
And this is what we sang...

Not Brasil, how about asking your source to provide the proof to their version if not tell them to stuff their version
indo version
Eventually, the game went ahead after the North agreed to wear the blue socks of host club Glenavon.
"There appears to have been a misunderstanding over what was agreed at the planning meeting for the match last month," said the FAI in a statement last night.
"The associations are looking into it, but we are happy that a solution was found."
In the aftermath of the game, which ended in a 1-0 win for the Republic, opposing managers David Jeffrey and Pat Fenlon were singing from different hymn sheets, with Republic boss Fenlon suggesting that his counterpart had indulged in a bout of gamesmanship.
"Obviously the kit had been agreed a while ago. Our away kit is white [jersey], green [shorts] and white [socks].
"I think there was a little bit of gamesmanship from Davey. But I think you get what you deserve when you try those things in football," said Fenlon.
"He wanted the Republic of Ireland to wear orange and blue socks but that wasn't going to happen while I was manager, that's for certain."
However, Jeffrey had his own take on what had been agreed at last month's planning meeting.
"We were told it had been agreed that the Republic would wear green, white and green," he said.
"The rules of the competition says that if there is a clash of colours with the home team, you change.
" I went to our own people and said what's the point in having a planning meeting?
"There was a bit of a stalemate but it was a point of principle over a matter of fact and that's what held it up.
" We were very clear we should have had the white socks on, the Republic should have had green.
"So, we made a mistake, but there you go."

Thanks for the link geysir.
Orange socks would compliment the ROI kit very nicely - national flag, and all that - but that'll not happen under Pat "Billy" Fenlon's watch.

Pat obviously has a sense of colour match.

On the football, Trap singled out Quigley as the player who impressed him most.
The poor lad didn't appreciate that soccerc is real source.
I don't think he knew better than trusting a link to the Indo over soccerc

Deary me - bit of touchy sort, aren't you?
Delusions of self importance, perhaps?
I merely wanted some hard evidence to present to an idividual who claims he was in the changing room, and gave a different version of events to what was posted here.
"Some bloke on foot.ie said...." doesn't cut it.
Geysir was kind enough to provide me with the Indo link.
Not sure I'd believe to much of what comes out of "Billy" Fenlon's mouth tho ....both him and DJ are masters of gamesmanship.

Soccerc is a respected journalist of long standing, who runs a reputable website and who does not spoof.
Compared to your self importance coming on here bleating about nonsense, based on some unknown's understanding of something said from the mouth of Jeffrey who had some (admitted mistaken) understanding of the pre match agreement.
Then you say you wouldn't believe it anyway, even if the quotes post match from Fenlon and Jeffrey which contradicted your source were on audio file because they lie or are masters of gamesmanship.
I have no doubt that Soccerc is a respected journalist of long standing, and runs a reputable website...he is also a mighty fine photographer!
I merely asked if he could share his "hard" evidence with me - via PM - in order that I might challenge the (not vastly different) version of events I had heard from someone else.
That was in no way intended to be a slight on Soccerc.
I also seriously doubt that DJ wanted the Republic Of Ireland lads to wear orange and blue socks - no matter what Pat Fenlon said.
In fact, I believe that DJ wanted the Republic team to wear green socks - as per his interpretation of what had been agreed at a previous planning meeting.
As the Indo article itself quotes DJ:
"We were told it had been agreed that the Republic would wear green, white and green," he said.
