I suggest getting new glasses then. Without the red tint on them.

Until O'Cearuill can go and play against AC Milan away in Europe and put in really good performances then it's hard to take claims of him being the better defender seriously.

Personally I think O'Cearuill is pretty ordinary. A decent defender but no more. O'Dea I think has a lot more potential in that he's far better on the ball and can actually play a bit.

I suggest you read the post thicko. How is O'Dea's performances in Milan relevant to how he played when himelf and Joe played together for Ireland? If they play in the same game, at the same position, you're saying I can't compare them because one of them played well a couple of times ina higher level?!

And neither of them are international standard IMO. Hope I'm wrong on boht counts

if you asked most celtic fans they would have him in as one of thecentre halves, for christ sake this lad has played in the san siro twice against milan in the last year and even played out of position once at left back and played great both times.
if strachan gets over his love in with mcmanus and caldwell then o dea would be our number one defender
Glen Crowe has scored against Kaiserlautern and Trevor Molloy has got man of the match against Celtic at Park Head but I wouldn't have either of them in the squad. Celtic were carrying him in those limited matches, even their regular left back is average. Take my word, that lad will either end up in lower leagues England or Eircom league within 2 years. Once he plays in the LOI he will never get another call up just like Cearuill

ah would you go way out of that. you'd probably be the exact sort that would complain if all 3 went to the match saying that it would be a waste of resources....surely this is the point of having assistants/scouts???

bloody hell there's just no pleasing some people...

Northern Ireland squad for the match.

Hope all of you who are travelling to Lurgan for the game have a good night - great wee ground by the way.

Northern Ireland U23 squad: C Keenan (Larne), D Nelson (Dungannon Swifts), C McClean (Ballymena United), K Lindsay (Linfield), A Watson (Ballymena United), C Coates (Crusaders), B Holland (Cliftonville), D Ogilby (Institute), D Scullion, S Ward (both Glentoran), R Clarke (Newry City), R McIlmoyle (Limavady United), J Mulgrew (Linfield), D Boyce (Glentoran), S Garrett (Newry City), T Stewart (Linfield), M McAllister (Dungannon Swifts), P Thompson (Linfield)
The Englishmen came over in the year 2005
But little did they know that we'd planned a wee surprise
Sir David scored the winner, and Windsor Park went wild
And this is what we sang...

The Republic should win this one easily enough I think. Most of the IL lads are part time/amateur and their season is over

Ive seen them play together twice for Ireland. O Cearruil was clearly the better player in both games

O Cearruil is a better player than McShane and O'Dea.

McShane deserves his place though. Granted hes not really suitable for the top level of football but he is average when hes fully fit. Looks like hes put on a stone or two due to the injury. O'Dea is only in because hes with a "big name" club, albeit sitting on the bench for the reserves.

O Dea has got to leave Celtic this Summer; perhaps to a championship club where he can get some first team experience.

O'Dea needs to play first-time football at his age. Until such time, O'Cearuill is the better of the two.

But anyways the good news is that both Trapttoni and Tardelli are going to travel to this match according to the Indo this morning.

Will it be easy to get tickets for this? I'm in Norn Iron from Saturday visiting the in-laws so it's only fair I get to see a bit of live footie.

Thats good news but only right. Even if its just to keep mugs like me happy they should respect the Eircom league players. As I said before that 40 man squad is not hot, there are about 15-20 players way ahead of teh eircom league, the other 20-25 are about the same standard.

Not be a problem - pay at the gate job.

There'll be hardly anybody at it.

"I'm off to the match now love, see ya when I see ya" should do the trick.

Hmmm, setting a dangerous precedent there, I think. Better as:

"Whadya mean where was I? I was at the match. And so what if it was three days ago? Sure doesn't that just give you more time to have my tea ready...."

I used that one after arriving home from an away game in Armenia a few years ago - she had the tea ready, and I wasn't hungry.

I didn't see tea for a week afterwards.

Hell hath no fury like a woman whose tea has been scorned.
