Derry City applying for Grant Aid

Steve, you didn't answered my question - if the money is to come from the FAI coffers, as you say it is, has that money been earmarked specifically for football-related development, or will it be used for other parts of the regeneration project?

Right.....just had a few drinks tonight so I'm in a rant mood.

Derry have recieved only €85,000 in 21 years because they dont own the Brandywell.

The worst clubs who had the worst run boards...who have since gone bust have had more funding than Derry City.

I'm not even going to talk about Coleraine FC and the funding they got.

Nor am I going to talk about over £450,000 funding that Glentoran..........yes..... EG's club has got in the past 14 years through diferent funding through the national lottery etc, while because of the situation Derry have been in, as they dont own their own ground were not able to apply for these grants/funds etc,

So because Derry having looked through every avenue they could......... saw that we could improve our local stadium and at the same time also improve the area where our stadium is located should now forget about it because an English based Glentoran fan disagree's wit5h us.

EG maybe your club should also set the wheels in motion and in five years time...like us you's might have a chance of improving east Belfast and getting a stadium to suit your needs.

I also see you havn't replied to my earlier post.......maybe it's because you have grasped what Derry are trying to do.............that is get a decent stadium west of the Bann..the 1st and only one.....and try and regenerate the area we play in.

I'm probably banging my head against a brick wall trying to reason with you EG as you still dont seem to grasp what every football fan in Ireland .north and south should want to get for our local football.that is ......improve our stadiums and engourage more people to come and watch our games.

It still feels like it's hitting my head against a brick wall so unless you come up and answer the questions you have avoided for 150 posts plus EG, dont bother.

As for you fellow ELOI fans who voted NO........... can you at least come on here and say why you dont think another ELOI team who in 22 years have only had €85k of funding.................. and believe me that is about 7% of what most top clubs have had in the same time...shouldn't be eligiable then just hit "post Quick Reply" and give us one reason?

We are getting funding from the FAI for the stadium part but because we cant just get the football ground of the Derry council but the whole package.as in we have to take the whole package of the estate the ground the Brandywell is in........3 times the size of the ground so Derry cant just build a stand and ignore the rest of the site we're on.

I think NI's recent friendly against Georgia would have looked good in an 8,000 capacity Brandywell. Ditto any notional Irish cup semi final not involving the 'big two'- Coleraine v Limavady or Ballymena, say.

I was referring to your statement that everything on the West Bank of the Foyle was once called 'The Bogside'. Which is too ridiculous to bother correcting. I heard that everything in the East of Belfast used to be known as 'Titanic Quarter', since way back in stoneage times...

Agreed. I'd love the Brandywell to be seen as a stadium for more than just Derry City. Ironically for all the IL-heads who are aghast that DCFC should receive funding outside of their league - having NI and big IFA domestic games at the Brandywell would do more to attract nationalists to the international set-up and reduce the divide with the Irish league than any amount of 'cross community' efforts by IFA staff would.

If soccer fans in NI saw the obvious advantages of having a decent stadium in Derry instead of being blinded by prejudiced egg box world view then ,,,,,,,,,,.
But that´s what defines them as being bitter and small minded.
I actually have more appreciation for the job that Howard Wells has, you get the sense that he has some severe bouts of banging his head against the wall trying to explain to the owc that Derry would be a good location for underage internationals.
