    Mons -v- Sporting Preview

Monaghan United will be looking to get their season back on track when they meet new FAI eircom League team Sporting Fingal at Kingspan Century Park this Friday night at 8pm. This will be the first meeting of these teams and will bring former Monaghan United player Brian Gannon back to KCP in a Sporting jersey.

Liam Buckley’s Fingal sit above United in the table and have had a much better start to their first season in football despite a 5-1 defeat to Longford Town in their first game of the season. They dusted themselves off and went on to beat Athlone, Limerick and Kildare while also holding Dundalk and Shelbourne to draws in the league. They bowed out of the cup at the hands of Shelbourne due to penalties having finished normal time on even keel.

Mick Cooke will have it all to prove on Friday night after the poor results of the past few weeks which continued with a 3-0 defeat at Flancare Park to Longford Town last Saturday. United need to secure a win if they are to stay in touch with the top half of the table and this will boost their confidence as they head to Waterford and Kildare over the bank holiday weekend.

Mick Cooke “We need to get back to winning ways especially after last week’s collapse at Longford.”

Cooke has to plan without injured Brian Gartland (back) and suspended Stephen McCrossan.
