Has anyone been to the Galapagos Islands? What did ye think of it?

Supposed to be good. I know one guy wrote a travelog book about his trip there, best seller but I tried to read it and he kept going on about birds. You wouldn't go half way around the world for the birds like, especially with the package prices to Crete

I heard there was some 'Birdman of the Galapagos' that would jump from a clifftop every year.

Saw that BBC documentrary on it last year.Apparantly the arrival of tourists,blow ins and goats that eat everything in their path is wiping out their fauna at a depressing rate.
They have resorted to going up in Helicopters with machine guns to clear the goat problem.I am ashamed to say that whilst watching the cull, part of me was thinking, God..that looks like great crack.
If your conscience wins out, there is some great deals to Lanzarote at the moment.

I think that is Easter Island or some other place. Something to do with a bird egg though.
