Bournemouth could move into the Championship play-off positions if they beat Sheffield Wednesday today and both Reading and Brighton lose. Eddie Howe's side are six games unbeaten. Ian Harte, their 36-year-old left-back, seems to be piling up the supplements in the home dressing room. Maybe that is the secret to a 17-year career.

Careful now. Ian will be on twitter complaining geysir didn't even know he was Irish.

Ah? Ah? In Italian we have saying, non destare il can che dorme. Harta need let sleeping dog lie. We remember, me and Marco. Also Carsley. I manage many team. Many trophy. How many trophy Ireland win? Ah? Ah? Many teams interest. Me and Marco leave tomorrow. Ciao! We do good job. Must remember. Before Giovanni, Ireland no tournament. Bottom qualification. *Explosion noise* Con niente non si fa niente. You can't ah make something from ah nothing.

Bournemouth could use some of that experience now. He sits on the bench as they've gone down 3-0 in 25 minutes to Blackburn.

    He's 37, 38 in August, so he'll probably retire

The time has come to hang the boots up. I have had over 20 years playing football and loved every minute of it!!! Now to the next chapter

'After 20 years it's time to hang up the boots' - Ian Harte announces retirement

Great career overall. Semi finals of the Champions League, played in a World Cup, a decent spell in La Liga, Wembley and top scorer with Carlisle and promotion with Bournemouth. He said his highlight was the free kick against Deportivo in the CL quarter final, hard to argue with that but perhaps Korea/Japan might have outranked it if his own personal performances had been closer to his usual level.

For me Harte suffered most from the Keane/McCarthy fall out. His confidence seemed absolutely shot in Japan/Korea

I am half joking here ! ! but can you imagine how good he would have been if he had a right foot and and a bit of pace ! !

Anyway he has had a very good career.

He was also a brilliant Freetaker and a good penalty taker as well.

I read a few of the books post Saipan, notably Quinn's where I think I remember him saying some of the lads were shattered and very low in confidence after Keane's exit. He galvanised certain players. I think Harte was one of them.

Others, of course, upped their game
