Irish people playing international for other countries

I am sure I posted a thread about this here the other day - anyone know what happened it?

Did anyone come up with anyone others than Willie Maley?

Can we keep this thread JUST to "Association Football"

Someone raised the issue of Sean Sullivan for Malta - but his wiki profile says he was born in Malta - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Sullivan

I remember when Colin Cryan was at Sheffield Utd he threatened to switch to Scotland (he qualified for them by virtue of the parentage rule) as he was sick and tired of being overlooked at U21 level - we subsequently called him up and capped him but it was touch and go for a second!!! A nation collectively breaths a sigh of relief.....

I have a feeling there was a player born in the North who played for the USA in the 1990 World Cup finals. Possibly 1994

Just had a quick check and there was none. May have imagined it...

Dodge, I definitely know who you're talking about but I can't quite summon his name. I don't think he made the 1994 World Cup squad in the end, but he definitely represented the USA. Peter something? Gah.

Brian Quinn! Born in Belfast, 48 caps for USA.

That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!

Nigeria's WC 2002 squad included a few possibilities:

    Isaac O'Koronkwo (Shaktar Donetsk)
Jay Jay O'Kocha (Paris Saint Germain)
    James O'Biorah (Lokomotiv Moscow)
    Femi O'Pabumni (Grasshoppers)
Bartholomew Og Bbeche (Paris Saint Germain)
It's a Sicilian message. It means Luca Brasi swims with Team Ireland...

I think this is a very interesting topic. If I had my way, the Ireland forum (whence most of the muppetry originates) would be abolished completely, along with the likes of you.

Then I was thinking if Irish born players had played for other countries - bet a few played for New Zealand and Oz that we dont know about

I know that ex Pats striker Paddy Dillon was asked to play for New Zealand. Never found if he did. He refused initially

Came across another instance recently, Kenny Finn. Won the FAI Cup with Dundalk and then emigrated to the USA, for whom he won two caps in qualifiers for the 1962 World Cup, including one as an emergency 'keeper.

Alan Lee did the same when Glen Crowe was called up. Threatened to take his incredible skills and vision to the US. We should have bought him a ticket.
The ball is round and has many surprises.
