    Zimbabwe - Mugabe to leave?

    BBC News

Seems a deal could be made for him to step down. Can only be good news for a country with 100,000% inflation & 80% unemployment. Staggering how a reasonably well off African country has been brought to its knees by one person. I am sure land distribution from rich (white) to poor (black) sounded like a good idea until it was given to people with no farming knowledge & so left idle so every one poor.

We had a small project at work with Zimbabwe state company which has long since been suspended. Even a couple of year ago exchange rate was insane.

Way way too late. I can quite pleasantly hope he and his henchmen die slowly, screaming in some rotten, dark, damp, rat-infested corner.

Tell all the Bohs you know
that we've gone and won two-in-a-row
and it's not gonna be three
and it's not gonna be four
it's more likely to be 5-1.

So a dodgy character whose leadership of a former colony has been blighted by accusations of cronyism and shady deals that have benefited his supporters at the expense of the wider nation is leaving power?

I heard Mugabe might be leaving power in Zimbabwe as well......

You can't seriously be equating Bertie Ahern with Robert Mugabe?
For starters Mugabe is a half decent public speaker

    That was what I suspected.

Seriously though, are they getting their wages by the truckload or what??

Interesting thing about this election for me was the amount of support for Mugabe. Would probably win if he was given a fair crack of the whip by the media.

Hounded out of office by the media eh...............This is getting freaky

no, their wages are the same. They just can't afford to buy a can a coke for 100,000 zimabwean dollars (or whatver)

I did a presentation on Mugabe.

I did a presentation in college on the tragedy that is Zimbabwe.Heres a fact i got from Time magazine:the cost of a house with a pool in it in Zimbabwe in 1990 is now what just one brick costs today!!!!!!Unreal.Ireally hope and pray that this cunning, evil pi** poor excuse for a "leader" is gone this week. Its saying now on Sky News that his rival has won 50.3% to Mugabe's 40.8% with others making up the rest obviously.Last saturday night i was chanting Tony Cousins Out.So today i chant Mugabe out!!!!(actually ive been chanting that for years)

Prices double every 14 hours or so, apparently.

So a bottle of water is worth Z$1 on Monday, Z$4 on Tuesday, Z$16 on Wednesday, Z$64 on Thursday... Meanwhile, you're still earning Z$10 an hour, until the government gives random 300% increases, probably worsening the problem. And so people ignore money, the dollar (and possibly the euro) are all powerful, and the black market is rampant.

I don't think wages are a big problem as only 1 in 5 have a job. I am guessing a lot of these are state workers.

On RTE Prime Time report last week they said exchange rates was 1 US dollar equal to multiple millions of Zimbabwe dollars.

Here's hoping for a capitalist successor so can kick start our project again (only joking).

Thumbs down Mugabe The Economic Terrorist

We are dealing with a xenophobic, corrupt leader who managed to turn a country from a bread basket to a begging bowl. Anybody who financially mismanages a country like Mugabe should should be arrested and tried for crimes against economy management and if found guilty, should be sent to jail for life without parole. The delay in the election results tells you that there is something suspect in the backgound and, maybe, Dictator Mugabe's results may not be as close as the ZEC are purporting out to be. Would you vote for a party that destroys your country like he did? Certainly not!!

The sad thing is so many people voting for Mugabe. He would not rig it to lose narrowly. Reading reports maybe Mugabe lost the the first vote narrowly but opposition did not win enough for majority. Maybe they are trying to decide if can risk a 2nd vote.

Mugabe should be tried for crimes against humanity as life expectancy is very low. Pity the CIA don't shoot his helicopter out of the sky...

But then again, you have no choice.

Democracy in Zimbabwe is quite simple. "You vote for Rob, or face the consequences".

'Twas nice to see Dermot Ahern describing Mugabe as a thick man who won't listen to his people.

Thabo Mbeki obviously has his own agenda with his silent diplomacy and the South Africans find him an embarrassment at present.

Looks like that the Chinese arms ship might have to go home as the ports will not handle the weapons.
