Matthews wants to see improvement
Following last week’s heroic’s against Derry City in the League Cup semi-final, Longford Town were brought back down to earth with a 0-0 draw against Drogheda United at the weekend and Town manager Alan Matthews wants to see a vast improvement in their next outing.
Although Matthews was pleased to get a point out of the match with Harry McCue’s side, he stressed that it was not one of Longford’s best performances.
The Midlanders are second from bottom in the Premiership and despite making it to the League Cup final their league form has been very erratic and Matthews is keen to get some points on the board.
"I don’t know whether the performance was down to a bit of a hangover from Tuesday. We trained well since that and they are honest hard working lads. I suppose it was hard to replicate that display a second game running. Sometimes it happens, other times it doesn’t," he said.
"I’ll be looking for a much better performance against Derry - but the three points is the ultimate requirement. While not playing particularly well and getting a draw is not ideal, it is something to build on."
