A Sven and McClaren team may have had the majority of possession away from home against the very worst teams in the world but never in a million years would their teams have the majority of possession against France in Paris. It was a big improvement from what I've seen which is plenty of England in recent years.
I didn't see the England game but half watched the highlights on MOTD. Hansen was spot on in saying that England just don't have the personnel to play a passing game, which is what Capello is supposedly trying to do. Anyway, if Capello can't sort their problems out then it's difficult to see who can.
My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method, is love. I love you Sheriff Truman.
From the 45 minutes I saw they were much more of an attacking threat than France. Ferdinand had a free header in the box, Gerrard decided to shoot when 1 on 1 with Thuram, Rooney had a header saved, Beckham was a foot away from putting the ball in the net when sliding onto a ball across the goal. France created nothing that I can remember other than the penalty.
Believe me, I wish it was the other way around as I've a good few quid on France for the Euros. As I said, I only saw the first half. Anyone that saw the full match will largely remember the 2nd half because from my experience opinions are usually 70-80% based on 2nd half performances. You could win motm on an excellent 2nd half performance and poor 1st half. No chance of winning motm if you reverse that.
A lot of pointless stuff posted there as I'm bored in work but it was a much better England performance in that 1st half then I've seen from them away from home in a long time.

Hansen and Graham Taylor mentioned that in their post match comments but don't think that's the case. Imagine a team of:
--------------James
Brown----Ferdinand----Terry------Cole
---------Carrick------Hargreaves
Bentley--------Rooney------J Cole
----------------Owen
I think in addition to that being England's strongest lineup available to them, it would allow Capello to play the passing games he wants effectively. I can't understand how he could leave Carrick out of the squad entirely when he is by far the most comfortable England midfielder with the ball at his feet.
if I was Capello I'd go down the Young/Agbonlahor route. Pace out wide, they aren't the finished article but it's surely worth a look - especially in a friendly game with nothing at stake. Too many of the doughnuts from previous failures at major tournaments remain in the side.
Let us pray their poor form continuesUnfortunately Capello should turn things around and will make them a hard team to beat.
Wes Brown is nowhere near good enough.
Ferdinand and Terry will be exposed time and again at the very highest level
Carrick is ludicrously over-rated.
Bentley, Rooney, J Cole is nowhere near as awe inspiring as the tabloids would have you believe.
And Michael Owen is finished.
I would agree with that. One problem with England is that they haven't had a player that is capable of exposing space behind their opponents defence.
Don't think Wes Brown is great myself but he's the best of a slightly above average bunch of right backs at the moment.
Ferdinand has done it at the highest level, was excellent in two world cups and has been the best centre back in Europe this season. Terry would be slightly dodgy but I think he would be comfortable with Rio beside him and protection from the midfield.
We've been thorugh Carrick before ()- how anyone doesn't rate him beggars belief. I think if we were exposed to as much La Liga/Serie A/whatever most people would rate him. Players of his style get virtual no credit in England.
Don't care what the tabloids think, I've made my opinions based on watching them play.
Owen isn't doing amazing at the moment, although I think he will be back on form next season if he gets a good pre-season under his bealt. Nobody can deny that if he is at the top of his game he is a world class goalscorer.
Care to suggest why? I can't issue a response until you share your thoughts.![]()
fact is england played alright in the first half yesterday, away from home to a good side like the french, they couldnt do an awful lot more. reading some of the posts on here really shows how anti english almost everyone on the site are.
This didn't do you any favours:

If you wanted it kept in the Ireland forum then you could have opened the thread with a better post. Then it wouldn't just turn into a discussion on England.
That might make sense if we shared the same manager, or if all Italian managers has similar traits, or if Capello and Trapattoni shared similar management philosophies, or in fact, if there was anything that hinted that results involving Capello and England might give us any indication of how Trapattoni would perform as Irish manager........but there isn't.
For those who are already having a dig at Trappatoni, perhaps they might tell us what better manager was on offer?
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
