Vikings eye summit role

After a mini-slump in May, Dublin City have rediscovered their form, and could end the evening back on top of the First Division table if they seal a fourth win in five games when they meet Sligo Rovers at Whitehall tonight.

The Vikings won their first three matches to sit atop the division, but then went four games without a win as they saw Finn Harps, Kildare County and Bray Wanderers all overtake them at the summit of the league’s second tier.

However, the capital side have rediscovered the winning habit since the midsummer break with victories over Kilkenny City and Dundalk, and another three points tonight could see them to the summit of the division, depending on tonight’s result between Dundalk and second-placed Bray at Oriel Park.

Manager John Gill is set to name an unchanged line-up for tonight’s game, but Sligo boss Don O’Riordan is likely to be without as many as four of his first-team squad.

Goalkeeper Ciaran Kelly, defender John Jordan, midfielder Gareth Gorman and striker Stephen Mullen are all extremely doubtful with injuries.

However, O’Riordan can welcome back Jim Sheridan from suspension and key striker Paul McTiernan is available after being substituted as a precaution a week ago.

McTiernan could have a new partner in attack this evening - former Galway United man Ollie Keogh signed this week - while Mark Cobey should continue in place of Kelly in goal.
