"real contenders for the first division" not after seeing that. Shels were awful! another long season ahead.
Monaghan United will have to bounce back from their defeat at Oriel Park last week if they hope to take anything from their Good Friday encounter with another club hotly tipped for promotion this season, Shelbourne. Shel’s travel to Kingspan Century Park on Friday for the 8pm kick off with a strong squad and buoyed up by their 3-1 win over Kildare County last weekend the former Premier Division title holders will be a tough challenge for Mick Cooke’s men.
United’s back four will be without dependable player of the year 2007 Kevin Williamson as he is suffering from a chest infection. Cooke will have a full squad to choose from other than that but will be missing the talented young Offaly man for his well timed runs up the wing and his skillful ball passing.
Shelbourne have no injury or suspension worries so Cooke will have his work cut out for him as he tries to break down the team who are real contenders for the First Division title.
“I was obviously disappointed, not only by the result last week against Dundalk, but also by our performance and Friday night against Shelbourne the team will really have to step it up if we are to get anything out of the game.” Cooke stated. “Keely has a strong squad and we will have to give it our all if we are to overcome them.

Yeah Dave they looked more like pretenders than contenders last night! In fairness they just didnt get a break. They were the busier of the two teams especially in the latter stages of the game but they couldnt score. Have to say Kennedy saved our bacon last night.
We still didnt play to the level we can but it was a much better performance than against Dundalk. If we can up it again for the cup game against them maybe we will overcome the plastic pitch syndrome our players seem to have.
