True, championship is not exactly the perfect setting for creative players so Garvan could potentially come into his own in the PL. I'd say he just needs to look at his consistency. Everytime i've seen him he has flashes of brilliance but they're nullified by lazy passing at times and not being clinical in front of goal.

I would think McCarthy is safe as he seems to have a real impact in the dressing room and might be exactly what Holloway needs during the inevitable troubled times they're going to experience next year. Hopefully they'll pick up some of the irish lads from Wolves, maybe even a place for Doyle. I wouldnt be surprised if McClean is offloaded to one of the promoted teams as the word in the gossip columns is Di Canio wants rid of him.

You would think that if McCarthy is still captain whilst injured (which I belie he is?) you would think
he would have little trouble getting back in the team.

However with his injury persisting for so long I wonder if that is being done more out of sympathy than anything else.

Crikey, I would have thought the two fascists would be best friends!

McCarthy's contract was extended to 2015 at the start of the season too. Delaney's runs to the end of next season.

5 clean sheets in 8 games for Delaney at Palace. He's thriving at Palace under Pulis. That's a defensive record any defender at this level would be proud of.

No, but, conscientiously, they did remind readers that if he gets out of contract he could end up claiming benefits.

He is also in the team of the week here, dunno if it is the same one.

Damien Delaney The Tony Pulis effect on Crystal Palace is beginning to show as the once leaky Eagles defence has now become a pillar of strength and at the heart of the defence, Damien Delaney along with Danny Gabbidon have been absolutely fantastic. Palace grabbed a vital away win over Aston Villa last night with Pulis’ side showing remarkable resistance. Admitedlly Villa have been a bit toothless in attack but Delaney snuffed out danger immaculately and stuck to his task very well.

I've noticed he has been in the top 100 Premiership players on whoscored.com for a while now.

7 clean sheets in 13 games for Delaney. Pulis is really bringing out the best in him (and his teammates).

O'Shea and Dunne are also on form for Sunderland and QPR respectively.

A pity we don't have any meaningful games until September. I just hope they can all keep it up.

Another clean sheet for Delaney. Paddy made his first ever Premier League appearance off the bench and it's safe to say he will be in the squad of 25.

Can't say the same for Garvs.

Both Delaney and McCarthy played last night v Hull. Has there been another all irish centre half pairing in the Premier League?

Evans and O'Shea surely had some few minutes together but I presume we're talking ROI players.

Would Steve Staunton ever have filled in at centre back for Villa alongside McGrath? Unlikely I suppose.

Liam Daish and Gary Breen? Both at Brum and Coventry around the same time.

Kenny Cunningham and Alex Bruce both played for Birmingham in the league in 05-06.

Cunningham and Scott Fitzgerald were both on Wimbledon't books in 1994-1996.
