Trapp. Please give these lads a chance.

Wes Hoolahan.(Midfield) I like the look of this guy.He may be small but he is consistently good week in week out with Blackpool. Pulls all the strings in the center and usually gets MOTM there.

Liam Lawrence.( Midfield) He has to be called up. Has all the attributes of a good mid field player big and strong, athletic with a good engine and has scored 14 goals this season so far

Sean St Ledger. (Center back) We need a center back and its unlikely Andy O ‘Brien will come back. He is a better back than McShane imo and is doing well at Preston.

Steven McPhail.(Midfield) Skillful player and did well yesterday against Middlesboro. Regular with Cardiff.

Rory Delap.. Versatile. Big and strong and playing well for Stoke.

Damian Delaney( Left Back) I have seen this guy play about five times this year and he is good. Big tall guy who likes to get forward and much more reliable than Kilbane in this position

Jay Tabb and Michael Doyle. Regulars for Coventry and both good players.

Paddy Kenny( Goal keeper) Best keeper we have after Shay. We need him back.

Derek Geary. Knocking on the door now for a bit. Stan ignored him for some reason .I think he should be give a chance

Martin Rowlands.( midfield) I really like this guy. Everytime I see him play his does well. Very intelligent ball player.

Clinton Morrison.(forward) Has never let us down and is doing well at Palace this season.

I know that all these guys are Championship players but they are not far behind the ones we have in the squad already and some maybe better .I think they should be given a chance and maybe just maybe some of them will surprise even the more pessimistic among us. There are more out there but I thing these guys are the ones I think have a realistic chance of making it. At least these guys would have pride pulling on the green jersey unlike that little Ireland git who appears not to know what he wants.

Apologies if this has been discussed before.

ah i dont know how many of those lads at the age they are at are worth giving a go than the younger lads in the championship.

Preston aren't doing that well this year, and st ledger is playing in the centre for them isn't he?! He and delaney are the only youngish fella out of all those. I dont think we should be looking to unproven old fellas at this stage. CHampionship should be there as back up, not as first choice...

Btw farbeag, do you think Trap reads this forum?!

I for one think that its highly likely that O'Brien will come back. His decision to retire wasn't injury related and he's still only 28. He'll be back.

Another option on centre half would be Gary Doherty. Don't all laugh at once. Since O'Brien and Breen retired (discounting O'Shea as we may need him at left back) our most capped CB available at the moment is McShane (9 caps). Bruce, St. Ledger, Bennett, O'Cearuil etc. have about 3 caps between them. Doherty has around 30, and has been in decent form for Norwich lately, maybe we should consider him as experienced (by comparison) back up?

Some of those just are not going to get called up again. Unfortunatly Delap and McPhails time has come and gone. I dont think Geary would cut it at international level. Michael Doyle and Jay Tabb are trying to get into positions where they will have a lot of competition. Mark Yeates was prety impressive early season, maybe he could be included. I agree with most of those you stated, especially Lawrence and Hoolahan. Both have been excellent. Morrison should be almost assured his comeback to the squad

To be fair Paul I don’t think that any of them are over thirty. Many people wrote off Steven Hunt before he was called up so why not give these boys a shot. There are not a lot coming through in the younger group as far as I can see and all these lads, championship or not play regular football. Anyway you wouldn’t know Paul re Trapps. I wish Stan did though. Maybe then he would have known these players existed.

He's dislocated his shoulder and is out for the rest of the season. Colchester look like getting relegated

Owen Garvan and Sean Scannell are better prospects than half of that list. Glenn Whelan should also be ahead of a lot mentioned there. Lawerence, Hoolahan, Morrison and Kiely I agree with. Delaney too simply on the basis that all our current left siders are crap. McPhail maybe, but he and hoolahan are the same players so I think Wes should be given his chance.

I don't really rate St. Ledger, Darren O'Dea at Celtic has better potential. Both are better than McShane though in my opinion

I always mention Lawrences assist stats but they can't be ignored.

Agree that Garvan and Whelan should be included for training camp and May friendlies.

most of that list is past it now. We have the main nucleus of the squad, theres no need to bring players like Delap and Mcphail back into the question.

Exactly. Other than Tabb, Lawrence, Morrison and J Walters I don't see too much else in the Championship that should be pushing to be included in the upcoming squads. Chris McCann and Garvan (if/when he regains his place) should possibly be also looked at as they look to be likely regular future senior Internationals and the experience would be good for them. Being stuck for defenders St Ledger might also be needed but he's not a long term solution to our defensive problems. Hopefully McShane or O'Dea can improve and cement a place in the starting line ups for their clubs.

On current form I'd definitely have Walters, Morrison and Tabb in the next squad. I've been particularly impressed with Tabb this season in the Championship.

Owen Garvan (fingers crossed) will make a breakthrough next season. Lawrence deserves a call up after his brilliant season at Stoke. He has a physical presence (something we lack), is a good crosser of the ball and scores goals.

Isn't St Ledger supposed to be good at playing the ball out from the back? If that's the case then he's definitely worth a look, especially if we change our style and play it on the ground more often in this campaign.
My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method, is love. I love you Sheriff Truman.

Risky strategy! We've only about 20 players to pick ahead of our Championship brigade. So a few injuries, complete lack of form/playing time, suspensions, dead grannies, or a genuine lack of options in given position, and we will be calling upon a few of those mentioned above. By all means you ignore them if you want, but I'd hope Chippy will be a bit more professional.

Has no one mentioned Ronnie O'Brien???
That question was less stupid, though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

Help me, Arthur Murphy, you're my only hope!

Damn, I take it you must've missed last month's dramatic denouement when it was finally exposed that Billsthoughts was in fact Ronnie O'Brien's grandmother, so then dahamsta decided to ban all discussion of said Ronnie for fear of "Bill" literally bursting with rage. How did you miss that?

We should stick with the 23 to 24 players we have then, is this you are saying? I don’t think we have this privilege. Have you even seen any of these lads play? I am not saying they all will get into the full squad but some of them should be there imo.Lawrences form this season speaks for itself and fourteen goals from a midfield player is not bad is it? Rowlands is a fine player( better than Whelan) from what I have seen of him and I would throw Delaney into the left back position.I would also include Morrison Paddy Kenny Hoolahan and Tabb for sure.

I've been very impressed with Rowlands anytime Ive seen him and he is only 29 so could be a good squad player... has to be better than Douglas anyway

Right, very good Ciaran. I made no mention of those fine players though; I simply pointed out that anyone (as in half-decent, Irish, Championship players) discussed in this thread shouldn't, as you had opined, be ignored. Anyway, it'd be great if you could move the debate up a notch (or try be jokey instead of sarky maybe) and reveal who those 20 are and why you'd pick them....

For my bit, I wonder if selecting under or over 25s is the better idea when there isn't a great deal of talent difference? Lads who have had consistent seasons of regular first-team football, or those who are just making their way in the game, have shown the promise to suggest they will be decent alternatives in time, but might be a riskier shout at the moment? The elder might be more solid and appreciate the chance that little bit more, but maybe the younger might prove to be 'naturals' and should get the experience?
