I bought a .ie domain name and am trying to point it at a wordpress blog but the DNS codes that wordpress provided me with are coming up as invalid. I'm not very technically literate so keep it simple if possible.

what do you mean by DNS codes?!
If you are not hosting the site and just pointing to another url, then you should just be able to provide that url to your domain name provider and it will automatically redirect to it ( your wordpress blog ) for you.
There should be a setting in your account to do this. If not just email your Domain name provider with the wordpress blog URL ( i.e. http://yourwordpressbloghere ) and ask to automatically redirect to that.
