A mate of mine arrived 40 mins early and didn't get a free scarf. Was there really 1000 given out?

I got one. I was there about 40 minutes before kick off myself. Pretty much every Rovers fan I saw had one so I'd say there was one thousand.. They weren't given out down the Pat's end, he wasn't down there was he?

    Oh no Holidaysong.

You're not going to wear it in Trinity's library with your Dundalk top and confuse me?

No, I'm normal. I only wear the colours of the team I actually support. You couldn't pay me to wear a Rovers scarf anyway. It says 'Proud to be a Hoop' on it..

I think overall trend seems to be up significantly although would be interesting to know average after 8 games last season. I think crowds do tend to drop a bit in the summer months though but could come back up for crunch games later in the season.

Poor on Friday night, about 100 I'd say. SF took 2 busloads of supporters, fair play to them. It was an entertaining game too. Plenty of work for our new CPO to do!

I thought it said 'Proud to be a Hood'.....

Fair play to Rovers. You could tell something was going on when you saw so many identical scarves on the TV.

Was it sponsored, or did the club pay for it themselves ? Must have cost at least a couple of thousand Euro

That cycle happens every year, and is entirely predictable.

Still - I can't help feel there is a bit more support out there than usual this season. Which if it lasts across the season will be great.

There's no doubt that MNS will deliver mnore supporters to the league. It might only be football-mad young kids who love watching the game and who will pick a favourite team in Ireland from watching the show, and do little more than just keep an eye out for them, but it all helps one way or another.

A good few of mates watch MNS as it was on at a normal time unlike EL Weekly. A couple have been impressed and are thinking of heading along to UCD-Bohs on Friday. I'm sure there's plenty of similar cases all over the country.

Ya there sure is. At the beginning when people where saying it would improve attendances, I would tend to disagree but now i'm convinced that it actually makes a difference. Although the First Division is not shown on MNS, it has convinced two lads that i'm in college with to go to Limerick-Monaghan next week. One is from Galway and the other from Waterford but they have to stay around until Saturday for an exam. After watching MNS, and knowing my huge interest in the League, they asked were Limerick playing that weekend. I'm going to bring them along. (Anything to get away from study i'd say)

Hence this Derry fan's attendance at Tolka on Sunday night. Anything but study...

They took two bus loads and there was still only 100 at the game?

Agreed, it was a pathetic attendance for a Dublin derby but I reckon it would've been a lot higher on Friday night. I heard no publicity for the game over the weekend whatsoever. With Munster, Celtic and two epl games on yesterday, the sports departments in our media forgot all about it.

The €3,000 tv fee that Rovers got won't make up for the loss on the gate.
Possibly Five hundred on the ballybough end and a further 150 in the stand would have been my guess.

Ironic given that rovers only fileld two blocks in the stand at Inchicore for many years...

Moving the game to sunday was always going to have a big impact on the attendance. Rovers filled half of the old stand, maybe two hundred in the new stand and less than 50 on the riverside... hardly a sterling home support now is it?

Nope its not! Then again, Tolka Park isn't our home ground... Tallaght Stadium is.
