Well done. If everyone down there did that, the problems would be sorted in a few weeks

I'd say there was about 600-700 Shels fans there, the rest being Fingal fans and neutral interested observers, but i'm new to the game so i wouldn't count on my observations.
That stand holds 800?? Are you sure about that??

1276 seems to be the official figure as it's quoted in the Fingal Independent who also quoted 1100 for the Dundalk game.

Sporting Fingal are publishing inaccurate 'official' attendances,

Last Friday, I proffered €24 to pay for myself and the missus. The lady in the ticket booth gave be back €4 and told me to take a family ticket which admits 2 adults + 2 kids. The steward then tore off & kept my single ticket stub.

When the stubs are counted - they count each family ticket stub as 4.

SF also sell a a single group ticket which admits between 5 to 10 adults for €50.
Do they count each of these as 10 people admitted?

There's is also a 'kids go free' ticket if accompanied by an adult. How many are counted for each of these tickets?

    Jez that’s an interesting point.

Why do you think clubs do this, is it so the can declare increased revenue, wouldn’t that mean the tax man would demand more money at the end of the tax year.
Is it to keep the FAI happy with bigger attendances and were all led to believe the merger with the FAI is a huge success.

I would have imagined they do a count of the turnstiles 'clicks' which would be as accurate as you get but I imagine not every ground has good turnstiles.

There would be no extra tax to declare as no VAT on tickets anyway plus they get the same money whether 3 or 4 people admitted on family ticket.

There's a PR / Marketing value to be gained from publishing inflated attendances.

There was a League Media Briefing in Abbottstown yesterday. The Irish Times has a brief report on it which includes:

Club promotions officer Noel Mooney reported that, over the first five series of games, attendances were up marginally on the same period last year at 8 per cent.

No mention if any figures were provided to back this up ?

Their coverage is good including their reports both on the sports pages and in the news section. Sometimes you've to do a bit of searching online, but I generally buy it every week. In fairness to them their local sports coverage is excellent.

I saw the piece about 8% rise in attendances. I suppose 8% over first 2 months is not enough for the FAI to make a big deal about. How does 8% tally with the official/unofficial averages on this thread? After 11 games will be in a better place to judge averages.

Me too but it is not enough to write Press release. Hopefully with some big games in coming weeks it will rise.

Inflating attendances would be a short-term measure, and a daft one.

If 'official' crowds don't closely reflect the actual, people will twig - and it'll undermine the credibility of any club's future figures.

The easy solution is to do what happens in the North, and charge VAT on gate receipts.....

Sure thats the way of the world now.
You lie today to get what you want and when it comes out later down the road theres too much going on for anyone to really care. Loads of politicians have been getting away with it for the last few years.

People are too busy to care.

Nobody seems to remember things for longer than 2 days in this country.

The 8% definitely hasnt arrived in Limerick yet. Our first couple of attendances were on a par with the last four or five games of last season (typically lowest attandances in the last games) so that does not bode well.
Our attnedance for Dundalk last week was half of last years attendance for the same fixture.
Overall we're about 50% down. Is anyone else in a similar situaution ?

We're up 10% on the same three games last year.

The figures to date show a 26% increase on last year, but obviously there's a greater percentage of derby games in there than there will be over the season (Derry v Harps, Cobh v Cork and Bohs v Rovers have all been played already), and the new season interest hasn't waned yet.

Myself and Young Oldyouth have season tickets for the Mighty Youths. At the turnstile, we just flash them like cops at a CSI Miami crime scene (no analagy needed friends). I think our 'official' attendance assumes a full turnout from season ticket holders, added to pay on the night supporters
