Liar!!!!!! UCD have no fans; it was clearly all Drogheda. I'm not going to offer any basis for that; I'll just call you wrong.

Don't worry; I like to leave posting an update till Monday evening at the earliest as there's always a few figures come in on Monday from people who don't have internet over the weekend.

    Why thank you.

I'm going on this thread in general, by the way, which certainly indicates that demand for the trip wasn't the greatest and the travelling support was likely to be smaller than usual.

Would that be a larger Drogheda travelling support than previously? I thought they brought that many most times over the past couple of years. I've no interest in the silly argument above, BTW, I'm just curious.

In terms of overall crowds at previous games, they've gone from a high of 737 to a low of 450ish when they were struggling against relegation. Average has been 600-700 the last few years, so it's one of the higher crowds for the game. Read into that what you will.

first time in ballybofey. rough guess, 1800. Dissapointing for a fine evening, and the best footballing team in the league. Great programme though. About 50 away fans.

Update after week six. Clubs who give official figures are in bold (Cobh's are official per their forum, but only the hundreds are posted (i.e. 9xx)).

    PREMIER DIVISION
    Bohs - 3,153 (2007 - 1,924; 2006 - 1,463; 2005 - 1,976; 2004 - 2,340) (awaiting official figure for Harps; missing Bray)
    Bray - 1,367 (1,200; 1,027; 1,550; 818 FD)
    Cobh - 1,863 (681 FD; 368 FD; 403 FD; 240 FD)
    Cork - 4,158 (2,897; 2,941; 3,644; 4,033)
    Derry - 4,540 (2,614; 3,229; 2,698; 1,672)

    Galway - 1,743 (2,199; 1,148 FD; 566 FD; 571 FD)
    Pat's - 2,271 (1,910; 1,342; 1,599; 1,882)
    Rovers - 2,540 (1,715; 1,089 FD; 1,539; 1,349)
    Sligo - 2,200 (1,448; 1,806; 1,794 FD; 781 FD)
    UCD - 621 (663; 546; 653; 306 FD)

    FIRST DIVISION
    Athlone - 458 (670; 421; 316; 291)
    Dundalk - 1,500 (1,406; 1,078; 474; 591)
    Kildare - 280 (243; 265; 186; 298)
    Limerick - 529 (670; 364; 669; 188)
    Longford - 767 (885 PD; 681 PD; 1,004 PD; 1,131 PD)
    Monaghan - 158 (292; 204; 183; 182)

    Wexford - 1,458 (810)

    Premier Division average - 2,282 (1,687; 1,535; 1,759; 1,853)

FD is an average crowd in the First Division; PD is an average crowd in the Premier Division. I've only put that in where the attendances was when the club was in a different one to their current division.

    Recent games missing -

Interesting that the biggest increases are outside Dublin with Cork & Derry City combination beating combined total for the four Premier Dublin clubs. Drogs numbers very low even allowing for restrictions (is it 3000 this season). Are Kildare & Monaghan numbers sustainable?

It's a fair question. We have survived on those sort of crowds for years now. The club gets tremendous support from local businesses in the form of sponsorship etc, with much of that money being put into the club at underage level, not just to pay for the senior team. Plus we cut our cloth to fit with the senior team and (obviously) have one of the lowest - if not the lowest - budgets in the division. But the same people have been fundraising for years now and will that source of funds always be there? Plus we are competing for funds with a successful county gaa team now (not knocking them - in the quest for success Banty has recognised he needs more resources and has, quite rightly, gone looking for money)).
Since the Club acquired an 'A' licence we can get a CPO (if we match the FAI's salary grant) and afaik we are going to do so - hopefully that will help crowds. A few decent - and entertaining - home performances would help too.

Football is all about the crowds. A club may have sponsors and the like now, but if it's only attracting crowds of about 130 to home games then there won't be much in it commercially for those sponsors - meaning it borders onto charity donations. And that make it vulnerable to the chop at any future point.

I'm not having a go - none of our clubs have great crowds, and it is a credit to County that they can live within such limited means. But you can't blame people for wondering how a senior club can get by on such low attendances. Or how long it can continue to do so (e.g. Kilkenny City).
Probably not dcfcsteve its the way that it was asked that probably got to me more. Agree with all of the above as well.

OT But on a point of order I'm pretty confident we have the lowest wage budget in the league.

Nowhere near 2400 at Harps/Pats game. I'd say 1800 maximum.

Athlone town vs Kildare County official attendance 296

This is despite being on the radio about 5 times a week, 200 plus posters put up for every match, 6 roadside signs on all approaches to Athlone. We seem to only be getting the hardcore supporter this season
