There isn't one current Irish international who is going to criticise the appointment of Trappatoni.

You wouldn't see turkeys voting for Christmas.

So, for instance, would you have left him out against Brazil? Who would you have put in his place?

Considering our left back crisis I don't have a problem with him playing there. There isn't much option.

Always gives his best, even when compatriots like Clinton Morrison, Stephen Carr and Stephen Ireland didn't. Definitely has a part to play in the next qualifying campaign.

Whatever about Carr and Ireland, Clinton always gave his best in the green jersey

As I predicted here - http://foot.ie/showpost.php?p=877556&postcount=211 - when the premiership game start up again after a small break, the quotes from players start to flow

A limited player but nobody could ever question Kilbane's commitment to ireland.

In the absence of an actual manager and with many senior players going missing, I heard directly from one player that Kilbane effectively took over the role of captain in the dressing room on a few occassions in the last campaign after a couple of the disastorous performances when Stan didn't even bother giving them a post-match talk. May not be the most talented player we have, but Trap I'm sure will see him as an effective squad player at least and I for one would love to see him reach 100 caps.

His head must be sore heading all those kick outs during the past two years since we've had no one with height up front. That has been his main role for the team for the last campaign.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Hopefully that tactic will be thrown away along with the last manager and maybe end up at Elland Road. Time to role it out to the full back or centre back and play from there.

Kilbane's head has seen less use in the last 2 years.
That tactic was ever present throughout Kerr's tenure with both Kilbane and Morrison.
Rolling it out to the full back is fine if the other team drop off.
It's easy to say play it out of defense.
I have rarely seen us play the ball out well against any good team who make an effort to close us down, it usually ends up with a hoof out under some pressure.
You need an intelligent Midfielder and good movement around him - a well coached team.
Maybe there is an active role for Brady after all.

Even if he doesn't play a game in the WC 2010 finals, I hope he's in the squad and gets his name printed on a few shirts. A true gent and honest player with more ability than he gets credit for.
"No regrets, none at all. My only regret is that we went out on penalties. That's my only regret. But no, no regrets." -Mick McCarthy
