Are you seriously comparing the appointment of Charlton (a manager with a proven track record) to that of Staunton (a coach at Walsall for a couple of months to get around the wage cap)?!

The main thing that Owls uses as a crucial line of comparison on potential Irish managers is on how well they did do at Sheffield.

No and I wasn't but no matter who was appointed as Ireland manager (assuming they have some football experience except Dunphy) I'd give them a chance, until at least 2 games are played.

Charlton I knew would be a success and I have a copy of the letter I wrote to Con Houlihan (who attacked the appointment) at the time to prove it. Obviously I knew he had done a great job at Wednesday (one of the few) and firmly believed in him just as I believed Jewell would be a disaster from my own experience of him. One can only make judgements on ones own personal experience.

    So you're right geyser
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Keane hits back in todays Examiner.
“I think John Delaney — is it John Delaney? — is a great man. He’s come out and said it’s a great appointment and the FAI haven’t even paid for him. If you tell any club or organisation, ‘You can get any manager you want and someone else will pay for it,’ that’s a great job for him isn’t it, chief executive?.

“That’s the FAI. John Delaney said last week, ‘It’s a great move for us.’ Denis O’Brien, who wants to keep it private by telling everyone it’s him (putting up money) — they make you laugh these people.

typical Keane, can't get his facts straight, Deaney never said the FAI never paid for him, and never said O'Brien wanted to keep it private... if only he would shut up about non Sunderland issues and concentrate on his job he could actually be a great manager... am I the only one who thinks that he only shouts his mouth off to deflect attention away from what he is actually paid to do

Bit selective there Noely, with your extract from the Examiner

    Full Examiner article here:

According to the Irish Times reporter he was responding to questions asked at a press conference:

"Keane used it yesterday to respond to the two men. Keane was asked a direct question about Dunphy first, and then later brought up Delaney unprovoked after a question regarding the appointment of Giovanni Trapattoni as Steve Staunton's successor as manager of the Republic of Ireland.

Keane replies unprovoked with acerbity towards the FAI. If money solved all problems then wouldn't Sunderland be in the top 6?
But he was spot on about Dunphy

How does that make Keane a victim.

If the WC 02 qualifiers were his 65-66 years and Saipan was his motorcycle crash......does Keane have a Blood in the Tracks still in him??? Even his critic s would have to say his Dunphy riposte was funny...

Have you been to Portsmouth? It is Sunderland by la manche. The only advantage is that it might have better weather and be closer to Europe, but I'd rather live in Sunderland. Far nicer people, although as a self centred footballer with a bimbo as a wife, I'd have neither as a home.

Has he not already done enough for the FAI... " gentlemen he said I don't need your organisation, I climed your mountains and marked your cards..." in Saipan they should of caught him in is prime instead of sending him back accoss the sea but I guess it was just a simple twist of fate.

Will take a 'Changing of the guards' in Abbotstown before he'll return
