where you gettin that from? How am i proclaiming him a superstar by what i posted?

My remark was to the huge number of recent posters writing off every young player if they havent scored a champions league winner before they turn 22. I dont think you are one of them. Relax.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

It is sad to see how far Owen Garvan really has fallen. I was reading through this thread and a few pages back there was talk of him going to a big Premiership club around January 2008. Poor guy will be lucky to ever play in the Premiership at this stage, much less play for the national team.

He's captained the U21's and played for the B team under Trapattoni. It's not that much of a leap to think he will one day play for the senior team.

Keane has no time for Garvan. He wanted him to go on loan to either Colchester or Dagenham, but Garvan refused, he told him he would rot in the reserves. Then when Cardiff offered €500,000 Keane refused to let him go. Garvan has been playing regularly during the last 5 or 6 games until their first defeat when he was the one singled out and dropped. He has made substitute appearances in the last 2 games scoring he winner in one and setting up a goal in the other. Keane just hates the kid.

Doesn't hate him that much if he turned down half a million for him?? If Keane wants you out you're gone, re: Lawrence, Delap, Clarke at Sunderland.

I would assume he sees something in him that he feels Garvan himself isn't capitalising on.

I haven't seen him play in a couple of years but Keane's not alone in his mixed view of Garvan. There were times when he was out of favour under previous managers, and has had mixed reviews from fans at times.
I pity the fool!.... But suggest ways that he might improve himself.

The guy is still only 21, even Roy the boy himself didnt get his big move till he was 22 and I think its safe to argue that it was easier to get a move to a big club at that age then than it is now (influx of more foreign players etc). Im not saying Garvan is as good as keane was at that age more so that the guy is very young and should be given another couple of years before we can accurately say how good he is likely to be.

It wouldn't surprise me if there was some friction between Keane and Garvan. Garvan in some ways is the antithesis of Keane as a midfielder. Technically gifted, plays with his head up, takes time on the ball, great passer over distance. To Keane some of his play might seem indulgent, lazy. pedestrian. Artisans (even brilliant and inspirational ones like Keane) rarely appreciate artists. THe fact that Garvan is stuck in the CHampionship says a lot about English football. He would be better off playing in Spain or Holland, and might be the sort of player who would surprise people of he ever got a full international call up.

don't sit on the fence anyway.....I have seen him recently against cardiff and he was excellent..different player to what i had seen over the years..better atitude wanted the ball and put in the work when they didn't have the ball...

Ihad been at the reading game and as I posted here ipswich fans didn't like his attitude and that he wasn't arsed....when I spoke to some of them after the game they said the kick up the arse was what he needed and he is now showing the form thay all knew he had but that he was in a comfort zone....everyone of them hope he kicks on and they believe keane has been good for him in terms of development this year and that they are now seeing the benefits

It has been funny I have been away twice in the last few months with work and both games I went to involved ipswich ..also on a side note the fans were very complimentary about Norris and quinn.....and delaney since the move to centre back...and walters as well

Garvan is unlike any other Irish player in his position right now. I honestly believe that English football doesn't suit him. Such hustle and bustle at a high tempo does not suit him.
I really do think Owen has the tools to flourish in a league with more emphasis on technique rather than one where you must bust a gut first a foremost. In english football you are labelled lazy if you are not killing yourself running about chasing the oppostion and the more you do this when its not your natural game the more it blunts your natural attributes.
Garvan is not a box to box player, rather a possession/playmaking midfielder with an excellent range of passing. I think Italy or even possibly Spain would suit his game alot more. Its such a shame some of our young talent don't opt for other leagues other than England and Scotland to learn their trade.

Another example would be Stephen McPhail who I believe is completely unsuitable for the English league at the time he broke through and had to adjust his game accordingly which was and is to the detriment of his talent.

Nice to see him back in the team, maybe he needed a kick up the arse.

If Garvan spends another 2 seasons in the Championship then I think you can forget about him being a top player ever...

Jesus Christ, have you a good word to say about anything? Only a member for a couple of months and all you've done is complain about almost every player in the Irish squad. Cheer up FFS - its a new year if nothing else!

Just telling you how it is son... I do sincerly hope Garvan makes it as a player and the other young hopefuls but it doessn't look good tbh. Most Irish players now are only Championship material at best.

You can call me "son" when you're older than me!

You say you're telling me how its is but in fact you're just telling me how you see it - two very different things. It's like the difference between fact and opinion - one is indisputable, the other is just a judgment resting on grounds insufficient for complete demonstration.

Your posts so far have been quite opinionated but also lacking in fact.

FFS this seems to becoming the yapster.ie forum. every thread seems to be taken over with his crap.the forum is all about opinions but all I see is a guy that thinks the Irish team is rubbish with not much potential to improve as we have no good young players... makes me wonder why someone like that needs to spend so much time talkin about the Irish team
    Its really not that complicated!!!
