74 minutes for Palace tonight having been out for four months. They drew 0-0 away to Millwall in what was a useful point for both sides. It means that Leicester, the only team behind Palace with a better goal difference, can't catch them. Hopefully Garvan gets another game under his belt on Saturday before the playoffs, assuming they make it.

I saw a tiny bit of the first half and all of the second. Funnily enough he was nearly more involved in the few minutes of the first half I saw, receiving possession and passing it on. He seemed to pass the ball slightly behind his teammates quite a bit, possibly some rustiness. In the second half he seemed to be playing a more advanced role behind the striker. He wasn't on the ball much and messed up one really good chance of a breakaway for Palace when they had men over, holding on too long and running into trouble. He wasn't taking all of the set-pieces but the ones he did he floated them into reasonable areas rather than whipping them with any real conviction.
He was replaced with Kevin Phillips with five minutes remaining as Palace looked for a winner. To be honest I have a feeling he may have been withdrawn earlier only that Palace picked up two serious looking injuries in the second half, top scorer Murray twisting his knee and also Jonathan Williams.
He seems to have a strange running style that I hadn't noticed before, long arms going every direction. Hopefully he starts again on Monday as these games will surely have stood to him but Palace have it all to do without their main man up front.
The more I hear it, the more i come to the conclusion, "Owen Garvin": Now thats an Irish name.

Palace have garvan, Delaney, mccarthy
Watford have Hoban, Murray, yeates and smith. Neither seeing much game time of late
Leicester have Logan and Clifford. Again neither see much action.
Brighton have dicker.
All in all not much in it, no Irish player of real significance to either. Wonder would any of the above look to pick up some of the wolves Irish if promoted
Lot of Watford's first team are there on loan, mainly from Udinese. If they get promoted, they'll all return to their parent club, could mean more opportunities for the Irish lads at Vicarage Road
Hoban's out injured at the moment, but he won young player of the season - http://www.watfordfc.com/news/articl...er-808969.aspx - so I'd imagine he'll be back in the side next season either way.
Watford into the final after beating Leicester with almost the last kick of the game, minutes after Leicester had a penalty saved. Brighton and Palace were both terrible in their first leg last Friday, and I'd fancy the hornets to win the play off

Na, a share of them will sign permanent deals. It's quite the balancing act Watford's owners have juggling their players between Granada, Watford and Udinese. Players like Vydra that are likely to make a PL impact will stay on, rather than return to Udinese as bit-part players.
Hoban's really one for the future and Zola rates him ever so highly. He could well force his way into first-team action, even in the event of promotion. As for Smith, I'm not so certain. But, Murray has really let this season pass him by. Yeates' contract is up this summer and while he's seen a decent amount of action, I can envisage him being moved on. He's not got enough for the PL, has he?
It would be great to see how Garvan fares at the highest level. It's certainly a good time to make the breakthrough at the age of 25, rather than leave it another season or longer.
I think anyone but Leicester is our best shout.
Garvan just subbed but after a tidy enough game. I'm not going to give Owls Fan a memorable quote, but I've seen worse players play for Ireland in the last few years.
Palace scored within minutes of his withdrawal! Zaha just put it to bed, 2-0. We'll now have Garvan/Delaney of Palace facing Murray/Smith/Yeates/Hoban of Watford in the final. The Watford quartet are unlikely to play a part though, except maybe Yeates from the bench.

Garvan started for Palace and possibly missed the game's best chance. Zaha set him up and he took a split second too long to get his shot away after controlling and it was well blocked. Delaney made a fantastic tackle at the other end in the game's only other 'major' incident. Yeates on the bench for Watford, only Irish interest.
Garvan withdrawn in the 84th minute as Palace make their third substitution. I can report that he has been excellent in the second half, at the heart of all Palace's good play, of which there was plenty. He played two lovely through balls that Wilbraham failed to make the most of. His set pieces caused an awful lot of problems and he had two half chances himself - the first he pulled wide under pressure, the second a really clean strike but straight at the keeper. I'd imagine he was only replaced as extra time at Wembley may have been beyond him, given his recent injury. He also seemed to aggravate something when firing his second chance on goal. It will be a travesty if Palace don't win this. Extra time to be played.

I think this is good news that CP made it to the Premiership as Garvan finally gets a bigger stage and, as importantly, Tommie Hoban can reestablish himself in the Watford team in the Championship next year after injury. He was earning rave reviews prior to his injury.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.
Garvan was excellent in the second half. He has a very unorthodox yet effective style for an attacking midfielder. His passes don't appear perfectly slid through like Kagawa or Pirlo but they always seem to be weighted excellently. There was one he played Zaha expertly in around a defender and it was almost dinked through. Someone mentioned his running style earlier in the thread which is very different too but I think it worries defenders because they aren't quite sure of his intention when his arms are waving around like that. Easy to see how Wilbraham has failed to score a league goal this season. He had some gilt-edged chances. The one when Garvan played him through exemplified this. Lovely ball.
Garvan can look forward to next season. The way Holloway had him back in the team as it's attacking fulcrum in front of Jedinak for this crucial run-in shows he has faith in Garvan. It's a pity Glenn Murray wasn't playing today or they would surely have finished the tie at the 90 minute mark.
Didn't see the game but delighted to hear that Garvan was impressive. Will be very interesting to see if he get a chance to shine in the Premership.

Good summary, totally agree. Think it was the aggravation of the injury that led to the sub.
Absolutely delighted for him, vindicated his decision to stay at Palace, really hope he gets a decent opportunity and stays injury free next season.
