    Glentoran Crest

    Quick question.

Why the hell is the motto on the Glentoran crest in French?

I just thought it was strange...

Well in World War 2, the French rolled over for the Germans to tickle their bellies.(ie they chickened out and surrendered) hence the french wording and the big chicken in the middle of their badge.

    In seriousness, I don't know.

Linfield have latin wording in our badge.

When I was younger I'd a fascination with Glentoran. I never had any interest in Politics or Irish history growing up, so i'd no reason not to dislike them. Always thought there ground was cool (with the big jesus sign) loved their kit, and thought the black red and green flags were good.

Do you really need an explination on why a Blueman would say something like that about some one who has a fascination about Linfields main rivals???

As I said there was no logical reasoning behind it. I was one of those kids who followed the results of a team in every League, most based on either liking their colours, a particular player, or seeing them live once.
Have to be honest I still would have a tinkling for Glentoran despite the side of the divide that their support predominantly comes from.

...em....Hi, Don't mean to breakup this Linfield huddle, but I actual like Glentoran aswell. Just that it was easy to identify Shamrock Rvs with Linfield and Glentoran with Boez who appeared to share the same stadium.
Three sided terrace with an old wooden stand on the fourth, behind a row of red-bricked houses.

And then I started going to Irish League matches. Who couldn't admire the off-centered Double-Decker stand and pill-boxes for goalposts.

The Oval appears to have travelled south as a match at Panathinaikos's ground is lavbeled as Belfast.

I think thats them calling them "Glentoran Belfast", as some of the other european clubs have called "Shelbourne Dublin" or "Bohemians Dublin".

Why would having an interest in "Politics or Irish history" be a reason for disliking Glentoran?

Yes of course, you're right. Can't believe I misread that.

And me a UC Dublin supporter who grew up with a sample of Fram Reykjavik and Spora Luxembourg.

Perhaps what Kingdom is suggesting, is there was an absent of negative influences while he was going to The Oval. He wasn't told not to like them.

When I was going regular to Irish League matches, on my return to Dublin there was always the question why I went up there in the first place. And the simple reply was that it was Saturday afternoon, easy to get to from Dublin and watching the top players from the league. My other LoI mates were quite happy to take the programmes off me.
