Why would he? He's still contracted to manage Red Bull Salzburg. Tardelli has already moved here and started to watch games, and Delaney has already brought Trapattoni DVDs of games to watch.

He will be making the Tay and hang sangwidges, and bringing the flask along to training.

Break his contract with his current employers?
Delaney has already been over to meet him. He said he won't be able to come here until his contract with Red Bull Salzburg expires, and I've no problem with that.

Is it too late for him to change his mind? He should have watched the videos before deciding whether or not to take the job.

How does that break his contract with his employers? Does his contract state: You vill at all times remain in Austria and nimmer leave the Vaterland? A weekend in Dublin when his team aren't playing or over midweek just to have a look around. Just seems strange to me he hasn't been over at all.

Owlsfan, a serious question for you. Do you like being an ireland supporter these past 15 years? Or do you do it out of some misguided National pride? I always feel you've nothing but contempt for the current generation of player and supporter and nothing but a return to the doldrums would make you happy.
    Please tell me I'm wrong!

I don't have to vouch for my commitment to the Irish cause to a complete stranger.

If you're referring to my slagging the team above, it's called satire and humour. At least geyser found it funny.

As for my comments about Trappatoni not coming to Ireland, would you take a job in a country and never visit the place? I just find that strange. No big deal but I would have expected him to be over by now.

I do not find it strange at all since he has not officially started the job yet, his current employers might find it strange if he did. What exactly would he be coming here for at this point in time?

I never asked you to vouch for your commitment, nor would I ever do it to anyone here. What I'm asking is there a resentment from you towards the current players, managers? You may call it humour and satire referring to a recent post, I'm referring to the majority of your posts.

Hmmm, 1900 negative posts. That's some going. You'll actually find I have been supportive of every manager, including Stan until it was blatantly obvious he wasn't up to the job. I have defended players like Robbie Keane who gets stick from ignoramuses or is that ignorami? I am delighted with the appointment of Trappatoni and have said so. Doesn't mean I can't comment on something I find strange about his behaviour or are we not allowed say anything? I'd be interested to see a selection of all these negative comments.

I am a realist and having been to 95% of all home games and the majority of away games over the past 30 years I don't get carried away with the hype or the opposite negativity when that comes to the fore. I have seen it all before (except an Italian manager that is and look forward to seeing what he can do with a team). I generally have a good idea what's going to happen and who is a bull****t*r and who isn't. That said, I have NO IDEA how we're going to get on under Trapps but I do know one thing: if it starts to go bottom up, the RTE Panel will castigate him despite the glowing compliments.

Well the role has now been clarified:

'I had a meeting with Giovanni last week during which he clarified my role, and I am very happy with what he expects of me.

'He wants me to work with the players, which is of most interest to me, and also be on the bench and in the dressing room during games.

'He sees me as someone he can talk to along with Marco Tardelli.

'I will also be part of the scouting network, and will be going to as many games as I can to monitor the players in the squad and also track the progress of up-and-coming players.'

    ----------------------------------------------

In a nutshell, working with the players (not sure what exactly that is) translator in the dressing room and looking at players immediately outside the squad. Pretty much as we expected.

OwlsFan if he were in charge of Ireland currently, and we had games on going ( and its completely different to a club having games every week ) and trap left to go off to austria ( where he would be taking up a job in a few months ) for a reccie mission you would be complaining saying that he isn't concentrating on the job at hand. thats the impression you give me anyhow. It doesn't matter a bollicks if he comes over to do the guiness tour or not before may.....FFS get a grip.

He is being true, and more importantly a top professional.

agreed. he has no reason to be here until his contract begins. wouldnt be very respectful to his current employers either.

Ok so, I'll leave it alone and accept your version. You add to the debate around here and thats the whole concept I suppose.

"FFS get a grip". Lovely talk .

If he was Manager of Ireland and went for a 2 days R&R to Salzburg, it wouldn't cast me a thought. It's not a criticism. It's just something I find curious that as far as we are aware, he's never been over here. I assume Brady went to Austria to meet him. I would have thought he would have dropped over if he had time. Perhaps managers get no time off during the seasons so if they don't, then I understand.

I am not daring to attempt to criticise the current sacred cow

Trap's tribute to Brady on his 50th birthday was exceptional, full of superlatives. Looks like they think the sun shines out of those places (where flowers don't grow) in each other's anatomy.
But it will be Tardelli who will hold the all important clipboard.

I see Brady and Tardelli were at the Reading game. Interesting report in the Telegraph headed LONG SIGH OF RELIEF FOR COPPELL:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/mai.../sfnrea110.xml

    Interesting comment:

    ------------------------------------------
Long expertly opened the scoring after a surging run from Doyle under the gaze of a delegation from the new Irish international management team. Giovanni Trapattoni's assistants, Liam Brady and Marco Tardelli, also witnessed another all-action display from Stephen Hunt, who was an innocent party in the shuddering collision that caused the injury to his Irish colleague, Dunne.

"We have found the Irish players to have a really good mentality," Coppell continued. "It's almost as if they have something to prove on a week-to-week basis. That goes an awful long way in any profession."
