    UCD AFC stalwart passes away

    From chatsoccer:

UCD AFC stalwart George Casey passed away this morning after a long illness.

He was a regular at Belfield Park and the Montrose Hotel up until the start of last season, when illness took hold and prevented him attending UCD home games.

For many years George Casey worked alongside UCD AFC General Manager, Dr Tony O’Neill, who during his time at the college was UCD Director of Sport and General Secretary of the FAI.

Dr O’Neill was at the helm of the club from their election to the League in 1979 until his death in 1999.

George Casey spent his final months in a nursing home in Bray before passing away early this morning.
    May he rest in peace.

I'm proud to say he was one of the first people I met at the club. He was always welcoming and considerate of new supporters.

    RIP George.

Just back from the removal. Very good turnout, including the current squad and others both UCD and non-UCD like Andy Myler, Tony Mac, Dave Tilson, Peter Hanrahan, Martin Moran, Theo Dunne, Eddie Cox, Noel King, Pat Devlin and more.

A gas man; always good for a round after closing hours. RIP George.
