I'm not sure it's as calculated as that Noely.
However, I was at a talk by Clive Woodward a few years back and he was talking about how he picked his 30(?) man squad for WC 2003. He said he left some better players out in favour of having 30 positively minded, team spirited players out there. His view was that having just one "termite" in the camp with a moaning attitude could be enough to bring the whole house down.
Remember when Jack said he regretted taking Frank Stapleton to Italy over Gary Waddock? Frank just moaned and whinged the whole time.
If Trap is picking a squad of committed players who won't have hissy fits over whether they play or where they're asked to play, then that's fine by me. Andy Keogh and Paul McShane, for all our criticisms of them, are probably good lads to have around. Their commitment is undoubted. Cox's noises have been very encouraging. Ward's interview in the Herald last month was great. And so on...
