I only own 'Wish you were here', so I guess I'll have to vote for that. I wouldn't mind giving some of their early stuff a listen.

Piper at the gates and ummagumma are very conceptual, al ot of the tracks are full of random noises and such. Darkside of the moon is difinitive in my opinion and you can also do this with it which is cool

Darkside of the Moon followed by Wish You Were Here would be my picks. Have never been able to get into the Wall

Dark Side of the Moon for me. My favourite album of all time.
My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method, is love. I love you Sheriff Truman.

Wish you were here - for the title track alone. One of the best songs ever written.

probably 'Meddle' and the related Live at Pompeii
" I wish to God that someone would be able to block out the voices in my head for five minutes, the voices that scream, over and over again: "Why do they come to me to die?"

Its Piper at the Gates of Dawn by a long way. FACT!!! None of the others have Barret's sheer madness. This is art. The others are fairly calculated.

2nd is Meddle. 3rd Dark Side.
Wish you were here only has 2 good songs and is waaaay over rated. Agree the title track is one of the best songs ever though. Saucer Full of Secrets comes in 4th.

I probably prefer Barret's solo album The Madcap Laughs to anything after Meddle.

that's a bit harsh but it's fair to say that songs like 'See Emily Play' and 'Arnold Laine' while being fine wee songs in themselves are probably a little derivative in the context of what the likes of The Kinks were up to at the time. No shame in that ...you have to start somewhere.

Yea, only problem is they're not on "Piper".
Astronome Domine, Lucifer Sam, Interstellar Overdrive etc trump everything else they did.

    Touché.

Arnold was released just before Piper at the Gates of Dawn I believe -and Emily* shortly after. But yeah neither are on it. They're of course on the Relics compilation.

*See Emily Play was on the US version which had a slightly different tracklisting.

it's a bloody wonderful record and am happily revisiting it after the recent reissue. astronome domine has to be heard to be believed. the gnome and bike are psychadelic madness along with just about every other song. early floyd is unfortunately overlooked by some, relics is another terrific collection of songs. it's hard to argue with dark side but then again it's impossible to compare barrett floyd with post-barrett floyd. 2 different (and terrific) bands!
