i see my team being mentioned.

    It does mean:

We´re lucky to play against Shamrock, it´s only an solid average team, if we were playing against e.g. Cork (O'Flynn+O'Callaghan would kick Odra´s ass, i´m sure), Bohemians or Shelbourne it would look bad for us.

that seems to have been the impression in poland alright, their manager appears to have been caught with his pants down. only playing three first teamers.

Will this mean that they will try to get their strongest team on the field for the return leg?
It may be too late for them though. The players will have been in holiday mode and it's hard to turn things around quickly.

i think so, the polish league finished three weeks ago, and most of their 'stars' appear to have been given holidays, i can't see them being tuned in enough to pull back the deficit after a week, with travelling cutting down the training a little.

looks like rovers held them defensively until the goal came due to a defensive slip and they tired late on to concede two. i can't see them scoring the two goals they'll need (and keeping rovers scoreless while doing it).

    from www.eleven-a-side.com

Riszard Wieczorek, the manager of Shamrock Rovers’ Intertoto Cup victims Odra Wodzislaw, has declared that he is intent on leading a stirring comeback when the Poles make the journey to Dublin for next weekend’s second leg.

Wodzislaw were considered warm favourites for the tie, and it was alleged that whispers of a second round meeting with Slovan Liberec of the Czech Republic were emanating from the Odra camp before Rovers’ visit.

But the Shams, benefiting from the eircom League summer soccer schedule, displayed greater fitness, netting twice in the final eleven minutes to close out a priceless 2-1 victory.

The Polish boss, however, believes his side will be sharper for next week’s return.

“We lost the fight but we cannot give up hope,” he told the Irish Sun. “We have to believe we can win the return and I will be motivating my players to do just that.

“Rovers have started their season and it seemed we might be able to cope with that but it proved the difference.”

All this **** about Odra only fielding three first team regulars is a complete myth dreamed up by the Sunday Tribune. They got it backwards. Odra left out three first team regulars and actually brought one of them on after 25 mins coz they realised they'd seriously underestimated us. Have a look at their last six first team line outs in their domestic league. It was pretty much the same bunch that lined out last Saturday and it'll be pretty much the same bunch that lines out tomorrow. C'mon the hoops.

Nearly true Postman... the lack of first teamers is over-stated but the guy who went off was they're top scorer last season.

Many people saw that of the Odra starting XI only 3 or 4 had squadnumbers under 11 and all the subs that came on did, put two and two together and made 5 unfortunately.
EL grounds are like good episodes of The Simpsons, no matter how many times you see them they're still funny
