Did anyone see the thread on Bohs MB about their attendences. A lot of their fans are truly shocked to see how poorly they are doing.

Pete, Tommy is referring to the fact that you and I both have the misfortune to reside in Dublin 7.

i can say with total certainty that if REAL figures were put up for all clubs that Bohs would not be the only ones whos attendances are looked at with rose tinted spectacles by supporters

Ive said it once and I've said it a thousand times (thats ONE thousand folks not "over three and half") NEVER believe the fans estimates on these boards as fans at matches are very often in no position to judge a crowd at the actual match

audited figures will prove how wrong some of these guesstimates really are, I know that for a fact

And we all know what you think, you don't need to keep repeating it. I think we're all in agreement that fans estimates are unlikely to be right all the time but in the absence of official figures its something.

Actually if people won't take on new (to them) info and alter their estimating ''technique'' accordingly I think he does. It seems only myself, Macy and himself are prepared to ''shoot low''.

As I think I mentioned on the ''Attendences'' thread the reason for staring it was that we'd get a reaistic assessment of the situation now so lazy Journo's would be less likely to go for ''Eircom Crowds Crisis'' headlines next season when the UEFA licence forces teams to accurately meter their attendences and announce the results.

Partly, also you get fans who mainly only go to derbys. A city fan who watches 10 games a season will 99% of the time watch all of them at the Box, a Dublin ''Big 4'' fan who does the same can often actually have attended more away than home fixtures though in neither case has either one of them left their home City.

Also the attendences aren't far off what City were getting in theirr last Sunday season.

pete could you include these official Bohs crowds alongside the original estimates, might give people an insight into where they're going wrong.

    What good part?

WWS - For once in your long online life you are 100% correct on fans attendance estimates. We at Rovers have long stopped playing the numbers game, 'cos it's a game we're going to lose.

The Bohs figures are particularly interesting. One of my main gripes with Bohs fans is their absolute refusal to deal with facts. Since Chippie has posted the official attendances they've gone very quiet.

Next season's official figures will be very illuminating and will hopefully put a lot of myths to bed once and for all.

Of the dublin clubs, the online fans of Pats have probably the best chance of guessing a crowd as we're the only ones who don't sit/stand with the main support. Most Bohs fans haven't a clue because their section is always full, likewise Rovers and Shels. In Richmond, we stand facing the stand and can see the gaps (or lack of in some cases). We've been telling Bohs fans that the Jodi is never full but were always shot down.

What annoys me is that clubs like Pats/Rovers/Cork (where you buy tickets and then enter) don't do proper figures. UEFA licensing ca't come quick enough...

They don't even believe the away fans that are up that end of the stand, never mind people opposite.... I've never been in the Jodi with Town when we haven't had Block A and a good part of B to ourselves....

You can include Longford in that figure as we've always done the ticket sales too.... Surely they must check the receipts to make sure the tickets and money reconciles....

On another point, has anyone got to the bottom of whether Season Tickets should count for the attendance under the licensing? I know for certain that english clubs do count them...

Well it'll be harder to do here. I mean in England, they usually use season books, so each game will gave its own ticket where as here, its just a card. I would presume that season ticket holders would be included as the clubs will probably presume that season ticket holders go to the games

Those stats are made up completely. Bohemians get easily the best turnouts in Dublin, and they are still **** turn outs. Putting them behind Shels and Pats is ridiculous,

Pats definitely have the biggest dublin crowds. Even Bohs themselves will admit the crowds been lower than expected this year.

    Attendances

Well there are a number of ways to estimate.
One is program sales. It is reckoned that you sell 1 program for every 4 punters through the gate.
Now you have to change that for Bohs because their fans buy more programs per head than any other club. So with Bohs it's more like 1 program for every 3 visiting fans if your team happens to be hosting them.

All I can say about our attendances is they are slightly up on last year despite us being slightly worse than we were last season.
We have sold more replica shirts than any other time since they became available to fans.

Derry are right to play on Thursdays. Unemployment among men in the city has always been over 50% and The Brew gets paid out on Thursdays. It's a right pain in the ass for travelling fans but that's the way it goes.

Likewise Dundalk are right to play on Thursdays for similar reason.
But Dundalk is a lot closer to the rest of the country than Stroke City is.
