    I dunno.
Ya I noticed that alright I thought he was gonna run straight to it!!! nah I reckon unless he's a complete robot (which is a possibility) he must want to come back. Any soccer fan would want to play in a World Cup so surely he can't be any different. The problem is he'll probably need to be asked again and I can't see Trapp doing that. Next campaign I'd imagine which is a shame.

How exactly do those comments indicate a desire to come in from the cold? I think thats just wishful thinking on some peoples part. If he really wanted to return he would of done so already, sure he would probably get a slagging on his return but thats to be expected and would quickly pass, I think its just a convenient excuse not to have to return myself but even if it was true that the reason he didn't want to return was because of the whole embarrassment of Grannygate then wouldn't that show that his desire to play for Ireland wasn't that great in the first place?

If anything it re-affirms my belief he hasn't got the mental strength of someone like Lampard... He's a talented player but he's gonna be worse off for missing out on international football in the long run.

Not surprising really. I watched some of the match and he played well, seemed to get stuck into tackles etc more than he used to. Top rating on both BBC and SkySports. Reminded me of Roy Keane!!

    In more ways than one

"I would love to play for Ireland, absolutely love it," said Ireland in the official Manchester City magazine.
"If I got a cap this season then it would make my year. There is a friendly in the spring and I would love to get in that squad under the new manager, whoever that might be.''

that was only a couple of years ago. it just doesnt make sense

He got teased by bigger boys. The FAI made a tit out of him by going public with his Granny lies. He's all embarassed and doesn't want anything more to do with them. He wont be coming back any time soon. Time to move on.

I think your analysis is pretty spot on, but it would be tragic if Ireland never played for us again. I spoke yesterday to a former senior employee at City who was involved in the post-grannygate aftermath. According to him, Ireland is simply too embarassed to return to international football. He has been slated by fans and media and there's just too much hastle and complication. Apparently Staunton and Sven met with him at City and both tried to persuade him to come back, but there has been little contact either from the FAI or Trapp in recent months.

I still think its too easy to say that he has brought this on himself and therefore its totally up to him to resolve him.I think he does want to play international football, but its just too difficult for him to plot a way back on his own.

    Question

He is the the most in form Irish player in the premiership(bar Given). I will hold my hands up and say I believed previously that he was a flash in the pan at club level. I will say he was poor against Cyprus in Nicosia and cost us the game but time is a great healer. He is showing some great class playing for Man City and we need him back in the international fold. How can this be achieved? I was a naysayer but now I am of the opinion that we as a country should rally together and bring this talent back. No more of the past. to quote Beckett - "ever tried?, ever failed?, No matter, try again fail again - fail better. Stephan you are an Irishman and we need you.

Then again if Trapp doesn't play Reid then who is to say he will play Ireland??????????

Spot on, people have to remember he is only 22 years old - emotionally he probably still needs to mature a good bit, posters on this website should cut down on the vitriolic attacks, I believe he will come back he is just simply too good to be be ignored.
