I think Hasselbaink was for Atletico Madrid the year they went down. I'm not entirely sure that's in any way on-topic though.

What's he looking at for that? 10 years for crimes against football?

There was a triallist playing centre back so unlikely that it was Mooney.

I'm talking about when he was at middlesbrough.

I could have sworn he was highest goal scorer. but open to correction.

Isn't there a few Cobh lads over there at the moment?

He worked very hard over last pre-season and it paid off for him. He was much stronger and fitter. He could be very good with full time coaching and training. I would think he'll be in Ireland this season though. He's back in Dublin at the moment, not in Blackburn though I think he was over for a short while. Someone I know was speaking to him today. He hasn't fully made up his mind yet but "it'll all be sorted by the end of the week". Sounds like Cork to me.

Mathews' famous quote — 'When we got Dave, he was more worried about his darts and his bingo than his football, such was the regime at Shamrock Rovers at the time.'

How do you like that, Roddy?

But Roddy had them playing great darts and bingo. As he said himself,
"Look, I had that lad on my darts team in Stevie's pub back in the day. He was ****e then and I could have brought him in to hit the tricky doubles when I was with Rovers but I knew he was ****e and I told everyone who'd listen that he was ****e and that Roddy was the only one who could see how ****e he was. When I was with Carlisle. that's Carlisle in England btw the lads over there could hit the doubles in their sleep. And he was still ****e. The problem with Parkhouse is is that he's fat and lazy. Oh and he can't hit a double for the life of him"

Being cynically inclined.....is Pat Devlin Dave Mooney's "Advisor" by any chance? He has pretty strong connections with Blackburn and it does seem a bit odd that a lad who was being strongly linked with Cork City, Dundee Utd, Bohemians, Ipswich etc etc is suddenly being trialled by a premiership side with (realistic or not) champions league ambitions

I seen Mooney play once last year & he is undoubtedly a good player but he's not premiership good....was thinking maybe he agents or whatever got somehow cajoled him a trial at Blackburn to drum up interest in the upper echelons of the chamionship or spl

thats my drunken/conspiritorial slant on it.....whoever he ends up with good luck to the lad

Also remember there was some pretty terrible defences last season, Waterford, Galway, Bray etc...

Fair enough 19 goals was great but he'll never make it in the Premier League over there. The EL is about his standard.
    Sorry for the bump but

Ah no, pleased to see him carrying on where he left off last season. Class act.

Mooney is a machine. Best striker in the EL by a mile. His days in the league might be numbered. Hope Cork have him on a 2-year deal (at least) so they'll get a decent fee for him.
