I think Humphries is excellent and I am currently enjoying his book.
Maybe he is too intelligent for one or two posters on here who only read The Scum.

    What a pathetic post.

Judging people's intelligence because they don't like the style of writing of someone you like.

    Seriously grow up.

There are plenty of so called intelligent writers that I can't stand to read, but I guess they're just too intelligent for me......not simply long winded and obnoxious.

Most people on here seem to think that Humphries is a talented writer. I think he is an excellent writer in terms of how he constructs his pieces.

I'd say the majority of people on this forum who dislike him don't have a problem with the way he writes, they just don't like his apparent dislike of football, LOI in particular, and his efforts to turn his nose up at it whenever he can, in favour of what he sees as the superior (in every way) sports of GAA.

EDIT : One ridiculous piece about 50 reasons why GAA is better is a good example.

I don't think he hates football. Just because he likes GAA more doesnt mean he hates football. He does hate rugby and rugby-folk.

It was meant to be amusing but it didn't "go over the heads" of anyone. It showed where his true loyalty lies. He was praising one sport at the expense of another.

He is a good writer but because I vehemently disagree with a lot of what he has written, it doesn't mean it has gone over my head. Quite the contrary.

Shame to see his book being sold off at 99c

If you like something, you don't write an article stating 50 reasons why its rival is better and putting down at the same time the thing you "like"

Not planet "black and white" but planet "logical".

I can see the logic in dismissing hundreds of articles which would show humphries love of football and choosing to take one tongue in cheek article literally in order to push some "everyone hate tom" agenda. I just dont see the point.
And GAA isnt footballs "rival". Its just a sporting organisation. Most people in this country can cope with liking several sports.

I've posted before and post it again - Humphries was an ok writer, but for the past couple of years he has been rubbish. Rubbish ott metaphors (trying to be the new Con Houlihan) and writing about himself. A lot.

Humphries had 101 reasons why the GAA is better than soccer.

    I liked this one
'If a GAA player ever jumped at a spectator, like Eric Cantona did, the rest of his team would join in. So would the rest of the crowd'.

It's a brutal serious put down of soccer though, does me head in it does
