Hegarty Confirms First New Face at Harps
Finn Harps manager Paul Hegarty has today confirmed the identity of his first new signing following the club's promotion to the Premier Division.

Fresh from the announcement of the extension of his own tenure in a 3 year full time contract with the Donegal club Hegarty today confirmed that former teammate Gary Beckett would be joining him for the top flight campaign.

"Gary is a fantastic signing for us, a quality player with great experience and while he missed a lot of last season for Derry through injury he has an awful lot to offer at the top level" Hegarty enthused. "I was hoping to have things sorted for last nights press conference but sometimes you have to be patient, and I'd delighted to have gotten Gary on board" he added.

Beckett, 33, was a Derry City stalwart, having made 383 competitive appearance for the club. The Eniskillen based postman started his career with his hometown club Enniskillen Town Utd before spending three seasons at Omagh Town in which he scored an incredible 92 league goals. One of only a handful of Derry City players to play over 300 league games, Beckett was rewarded with a testimonial in 2006 and becomes the latest player to have donned both Derry and Harps colours in a distinguished career.

Becket is a former PFAI Young Player of the year and was nominated in 2006 for the PFAI Senior Player of the Year title and is looking forward to a new challenge at Paul Hegarty's resurgent Harps in 2008.
