    Broadband and online gaming ?

I have a 3mb braodband connection and for the most part its fine for online gaming but i have noticed about a half a second delay some times which can be fatal playing shooters !! .

Now im wondering if i upgrade to a 5mb/s account will it make online gaming even faster or just my downloading faster ( ive never gotten anywhere near 3mb/s downloading any way ). Is it worth it .Is it my connection or the hosts that affects the game speed?

Also i have a wireless network set up in the house with the router in the front room PS3 in the back room could this be the problem am i better off just running a cable across to the PS3 room.

I'd be fairly positive the problem is with the wireless.

Try running an ethernet cable just to test it out, and see if theres an improvement.

Also, no matter how fast your connection to the server, you then have to suffer the connection from the server to the other player. In some games, e.g. MTA:SA, this can mean the other player "jumps" around the map, impossible to kill.

I had that problem allright where id be shooting at a guy then he would dissapear and appear on the other side of the road !! but i knew that was down to there connection as it normally plays smothly enough.

Ill try running the cable across over the weekend i have a feeling the extra jump the signal has to make through the wireless and back just slows it a fraction of a second but some times that s the difference between life and death.
