I'd have Keane in there as well.
I had many a conversation about football in my life, but one my favourite 'conversation starters' is a little thing I like to call the 'Irish & British Lions' question.
A lot of people out there think that Ireland have a great team and all that. Well there is only one way and one way only to see if that is true and that is if there was a tournment ever played where the best of Ireland, Engerland, Scotland and Wales played a team like Brazil (for Example). How many of the Republics current squad would make it into the starting 11?
It is a pretty good way to judge the team.
My answer by the way would be Given and Dunne
The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist thinks it will change; the realist adjusts the sails.

I'd have an all Irish team just to be a bit crazy like
I am the manager and we are playing 4-4-2
I have already chosen Rooney and Owen![]()

Look, truth be told, all biase aside, if u were to pick a lions team like the rugger, nad if you were totally honest about it, the ONLY non English player would be Given
Thats a fact
Eh what about Duff? Since Giggs is gone from the international scene and is 102 years old there isn't anyone better on the left from any of the aforementioned countries inho
Given
Dunne
Finnan?
Keane
Duff
McGoldrick![]()
On form alone:
-------------- Given
-----Dunne----Terry----Ferdinand
Wright Phillips Carrick Gerrard Hunt
-----Rooney------Owen------Keane

LESS OF THE BULL NOW!
How can you say on form alone and then pick Owen who has barely played in the past 2/3 years?
he looked sharp yesterday. I'll admit he wasn't great but he looked like another 2 games would have him scoring goals.

LESS OF THE BULL NOW!
Given, Dunne, Hunt and Doyle.
Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.
irish and british kittens would be a better name for them.
Given..........that's about it.
Keane, Dunne as subs?
Finnan would be a dead cert at right back, no one else would come even close to him. On current form, Keane and Dunne would also get in the team. Thats about it though. England players would still make up the majority of the team. An on form Duff would get in left side of midfield but he is nowhere near that at the moment.
Given and Finnan would start.
Dunne and Keane on bench.
Given - Gordon - James
Finnan - Hutton - Neville
???? - Naysmith - Cole
Dunne - Weir - Ferdinand - Terry - Carragher - Campbell
Reid - Carsley - Ferguson - Brown - Hargreaves - Gerrard - Lampard - Barry - Carrick
Duff - McGeady - Hunt - Ireland - Maloney - Wright-Phillips - Cole - Bentley - Downing - Young - Beckham
Keane - Doyle - McFadden - Rooney - Crouch - Owen
Given definitely wins the battle of the keepers for me. Finnan just edges out Neville, who I rate, because Neville has hardly played in a year. Dunne just misses out. I've picked the 3 midfielders I think link up best. Only one wide player and that's Cole, who isn't playing anywhere near his best atm. I'd honestly have Maloney before any of the Irish wide players. I think he's fantastic as I've said many times. A Ferguson-Brown partnership is probably better than any pair we could put out in the centre. Keane and Rooney might not suit each other but they're much better than the other options imo.
I just realised I totally ignored Wales and Northern Ireland.Anyway, you can add Bale, Koumas, Bellamy, Giggs and Healy to the list but it wouldn't make a difference to my team.
