    Good TV

Some excellent TV programs on recently. The best of which all seem to be sea-based:

Three men in another boat - Griff, Dara, and Rory reunited to sail around the southeast coast of England.

Viking Voyage (I think that was the name). About 60 people on a replica viking ship travel from Norway, across the North sea to Dublin.

An Island Parish - following the lives of people living on the Scilly Isles.

All fascinating viewing. All I need now is Trawlermen to complete the set.

    Anything else I missed?

Agreed!...love this series.....what a job?..just shows no matter how difficult our jobs seem at times, compared to what these guys contend with, ours is a walk in the park!

is trawlermen along the lines of deadliest catch? Is it fishing in the north sea? Love all these types of shows, having spent 4 or 5 summers working on a fish farm I find them very interesting. Loved the (rare) warm summers days out on the boat, porpoises, seals, all kinds of birds, fishing for mackarel when we got a "free hour" or two !! ah yes!

That's the one. From a port on the Northeasterly tip of Scotland.

Ooh, just thought of another one: Coast.

They covered Ireland in the last series. Again, fascinating stuff. Kind of puts me to shame about my lack of knowledge of our own island.

I'm a big fan of House MD. It's huge in the US, but not that well known here.

It's a procedural medical drama with a sprinkling of dark humour and a lot of good one-liners. Hugh Laurie is amazing in the title role.

Channel 6 showed the first two seasons. The third should be on before long. You can get the box set of all three seasons here already.

Another sea/boat based series has started again on Sunday nights on TG4. Muintir Na Mara with Padraig O Duinnin. On last years series he travelled the Cork coast in his currach, and this year he's doing the Kerry coast. A simple but very enjoyable show.

I've only seen one episode. Not bad overall, but a few lines were so clichéd they made me cringe.

Decided to dig out this thread after another promising sea-based show started tonight. The new series from Francesco da Mosta (previously of BBC's 'Francesco's Venice' and 'Francesco's Italy: Top To Toe') started on BBC 2 tonight, 'Francesco's Mediterranean Voyage'. He sails the old trade route from Venice to Istanbul. The second episode is on tomorrow night.
