In fairness he's clearly talking about abuse from opposing fans.

the abuse sol got would be fairly different to what robbie has experiences i imagibe seeing as the man is black and has had loads of rumours about his sexuality as well , neither of which robbie ever had to deal with.
Was he crazy!! Yeah , in a very special way , an Irishman.

campbell isnt complaining about getting racial abuse though.

"But when you get to the level of personal abuse that I and other players are subjected to, it's got to stop now."
And Campbell thinks verbal abuse is as bad as racist chanting.
"There is no difference for me," said the 33-year-old centre-half. "It's harmful. They are trying to belittle you and it is downright out of order.
the reason keane doesnt receive the same abuse though is keane would never feck over a club in the same way campbell and some of his like have

there are 2 obvious reasons why sol campbell gets abuse.
    (1) he moved from one fierce rival to another
    (2) he went out with martina hingis, the most famous "beard" of recent times.

here at home tony grunt got a pigs head and pigs feet thrown at him.
bozo fans burned messages onto the tolka pk turf about swiss roll glen crowe.

get over the abuse. your paid enough.

17/12/2000 "Being a Spurs fan as a boy and a player for so many years, it would be hard to sign for Arsenal. I don't think the fans here would ever forgive me."

01/01/2001 "I want to play for Tottenham, that's it really. I am going nowhere. I've been here for so long and for me to do well at this club means everything. When you look at Tottenham, the talent is unbelievable, the stadium's lovely and all the ingredients are there."
6 months later he signs for arsenal on a bosman. 2 years earlier spurs could of sold him for 21m to united

Had to laugh at players complaining about abuse when you think what they and their managers hand out to referees, week in, week out.

Grow up and take it with your 150K a week.

This debate pops up every once in a while - does the fact that players receive such high salaries mean they shouldn't complain about abuse?

Would going to a game be half as much fun if you had to worry about getting thrown out for something you said in the heat of the moment?
And you ask me to help you??!! Man is evil!!!! Capable of nothing but destruction!

I think it means that if you are just getting a lowish salary you still get abused but you can complain.

How do the BBC decipher Robbie's accent?

The higher the salary, the more responsibilty one should have or accept and abuse as a footballer from fans comes with the job. If you're playing in the amateur league and some guy on the sideline starts mouthing off at you, you don't have to take it. A professional footballer on the other hand, cosseted enough as they are, should be able to take it because that's part of the job. They can give it quick enough (as stated already) but now to start moaning about it. Pathetic.

As long as the abuse is personel and not Racial, Religous or family it is reasonable (not nice). Fans have the right to voice their opinions because without fans there would be no game. Anyway it is only a few times a year when he goes to Spurs.

Look at ronaldo last year, it was every away match and he ended up player of the year!

The abuse can really cross the line at times though. Its hard to understand the mentality of people who come out with some of the stuff that Glenn Roeder has to listen to (tumour boy, why didnt you die? etc)

texted that very point to my mates today. Andy Gray nearly creamed himself when Fabregas put Adebayor through. Very surprised to see Keane miss that penalty though - he's usually reliable from the spot.
