    What??

    In Galway like??

This is all the promotional stuff going on that I am aware of.

Also, kind of hard for us to start flogging season tickets when we don't have any........

I understand that - just saying it's possibly harmful to the league that a player playing in it for even one season could lose his chance of international football for the rest of his career.

Did they apply by accident? Or were they just invited without applying?

The article seems to suggest they were invited without applying. It did say a few clubs dropped out after initially applying. It also said something about a couple of junior clubs in Dublin 'shaking their heads negatively' at the league or something along those lines. It didn't explain if they turned down an invite or have nothing to do with it and just generally disapprove.

A lot of players in Junior football would be capable of the step up to League football. Cannot be arsed to travel hence they remain in the Junior ranks.

lads this rule changed some way recently.

johnny mernagh was in the irish amateur squad last season on a few occasions even though he had spells with both gufc and limerick.

he was in the paper after his first call up saying how he was surprised he was eligible after playing pro before.

don't know the exact rule on eligibility but if you only had a brief pro career (i.e. one season or so) then you can play.

is a player excluded from Amateur Int team if they've played EL? Wayne Fitzgerald was on the squad after he played for Waterford Utd...he currentlt plays or Carrick Utd

Presumably you can be regraded the same as going back from intermediate to junior. Also I presume you are only a professional as long as you are getting paid for playing.

    A Championship

OK so now I know more about A Championship. But already one team is now promoted to the Second League - Sporting Fingal.

    Was that a question?

Yes, Sporting Fingal are replacing Kilkenny City in the League of Ireland First Division (the second tier of Irish senior football) and therefore will not take part in the 'A' Championship.

    from wikipedia:

    " 'A' League Championship

The 'A' League Championship is a new league introduced in order to provide a link between non-league soccer in the and the eircom League. It gives clubs the opportunity to win promotion to the league for the first time. It has been decided that this championship will not kick off until June but
a Shield competition, starting in March, will be put in place in order to give the 'A' League Championship participants a chance to prepare.
The league will contain reserve sides of the eircom League clubs also. Last December four new clubs were accepted for entry into the championship. These clubs are and both from from and newly formed club who have since been elevated to the First Divison."

    - so, does anyone have an update on the situation here? this news is months old, and i cant find anything on the web about it... -
