    Google Query

I wanted to get a news item relating to my business on google, so when someone googles a certain name, this item will appear. How do I do that??

if your site already shows up on google, it will be spotted soon enough by the robots.

if your site isnt yet on google, http://www.google.com/webmasters/ and submit the site. however, google's robots find most sites on their own anyway. also, dont just submit the link to the news item, submit the entire site and the robots will find the news themselves

You can leave it to chance, or buy the term on google adwords:

Buying adwords credits only puts you in the ads, not in the search results.

    Correct.

To climb the rankings, you need some "Search Engine Optimisation" of your website. This is arcane, expensive and prone to failure. If you want to try it, google the term.

And whoever comes up first you'll know is definitely the best!

Is that registering feature the reason why I can leave out the .com from certain sites in the address bar then yeah? Must say I got very excited about that when I first noticed it.

Depends on your browser. Some of them add "http://" and ".com" to anything you type there without a domain.
