    new manager

i heard from a fierce reliable source that its between aaron callaghan and dessie cawley( ex sligo rovers coach and current under 21 manager) for the town job. there were rumours doin the rounds this evenin ( im to blame) that aaron was goin to be announced as town boss early this week but I believe that the 11 committee members are goin to vote who will be the next town manager?? two lads heard from good sources that callaghan has got it but we will have to see later in the week.

heard vinny perth was never in the running and I heard that Kenny Cunnigham who played for Millwall in 1994 when they played us in the testimonial for Dave Savage applied for the job.

Heard Cawley is rated highly by the club and players of the under 21 side. He was a caretaker boss of Sligo rovers in between Sean Connor and Rob McDonald and was a coach there. whats your opinion of him sligoman??

what do you think of callaghan if he is appointed town boss? personally speakin he is very volatile but he was the brains behind the three cup wins....
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

Think Aaron deserves a chance. Knows the club like the back of his hand and is a highly qualified coach.

I don't think it's accurate to say Vinny was never in the running - from what I hear, he has one VERY powerful supporter. Personally I don't think he has enough experience, he needs to do his badges and get a year or two of being an assistant under his belt.

Dessie was our care-taker after McDonald left us for dead a few days before the 2007 season. Along with Leo Tierney. They did a good job in fairness to the two of them and I'll always appreciate them for that. Think the players got on well with and respected him too which is always a good thing. Can't really say how good he'd be on his own though because as I say, it was a joint-effort between both Cawley and Tierney. I'd like to see him get it, but that's probably just because he's from Sligo. He works in Tesco in Sligo.

Did Ski McGee not apply for the job at all? He seems to have applied for every other job that becomes available so I'd be surprised if he didn't.

I hope he does. There's a strong chance that if Stephen Kenny ends up back in Ireland he'll have Vinny in his backroom team. They're really close still and speak a few times week about football in general. I read an inerview ealier this year where Vinny said he hoped Kenny would bring him somewhere as his assistant.

acc to the sun today he has being linked with the job but I would reckon surely its too late for him to apply...

Alan always said they never fell out. Think he might have been trying to save money on his backroom team at the start of the year.

Always heard good reports to be honest. Alan was known to erupt at players on plenty of occasions. All managers do to be honest. Carrot and stick. Some need the stick a lot!

Kenny Cunningham as Town manager? That could have been interesting but he's never played in the eL. too much of a gamble. Welcome back Aaron.
