    Mons sign Mulchay and Kennedy

Monaghan United manager Mick Cooke confirmed today that he has signed Alan Mulchay from Waterford United and Brendan Kennedy formerly Kildare County. “I am delighted to be able to bring in Alan Mulcahy and Brendan Kennedy to add to the squad. I was given the go ahead to start signing players some weeks back and have been working on bringing in some quality to add to the great squad I have.” Mick Cooke stated today.

Mulcahy will help shore up the midfield and Brendan Kennedy will be fighting it out with Danny Woods for the number 1 jersey.

“I am thrilled that Paul Whelan, Luke Fitzpatrick, Kevin Williamson, Aaron Mooney, Danny Woods, Dom Tierney, Wayne Byrne and Darren Meenan have all agreed to stay at United. This gives us a great squad to build from as we look into the 2008 season” Cooke continued.

Monaghan United also confirmed that their top goal scorer from last season Robbie Farrell has gone to Dundalk and Brian Gannon has been released.

Mul is class, plays his heart out every game. Didn't get a run for us because of injury/suspension. I'm actually surprised we let him go

    Brendan Kennedy - good grief
Mulcahy is alright as I remember; did he used to play for Dublin City the year they were promoted?
Sorry to see Brian Gannon go too, quality player.

Yeah Gannon is a loss, but I think he needs new fresh pastures to perform to his full. Wish him all the best.

Don't know much about Kennedy tbh.

He is brother of former Irish International Mark Kennedy. He is big and tall, but last time I saw him he was very overweight and not very agile. Has a massive kickout.

Brendan was a fine goalkeeper in his day, but the years have dulled his reflexes somewhat and he's become chronically error-prone.

Alan's a great kid and a skillful player but doesn't have quite enough pace to make a top-class winger. Also, he tends to take the p1ss a bit when playing at the bottom end of the league (as he did at Kilkenny and Kildare.) He's a very nice fella though, I wish him all the best. If nothing else he'll be a hit with the ladies.

Oh right the picture is becoming clearer on both of them so!

Sheridan, since there are only a few ladies at the game he will have a hard time! Myself & my best mate are spoken for, The chairman's wife and the other female committee member are happily married, the chairman's daughter and our neecy would be the only real candidates so will have to arrange a raffle to see which of them deserve him!

He should get a great reception from our supporters though

Both played for Kildare County two years ago.

Brendan is probably the worst goal-keeper we have consistently played in a season. He is error-prone and couldn't get the defence organised, also struggles for fitness. On the good-side, he is a great shot-stopper and his kick-outs are insane! He's par of the course for us clubs in the lower half of D1 really. No Banana though.

Kennedy has bags of ability, but from my experience doesn't really apply himself to the task at hand that much. Mick Cooke will have to work hard to get him playing as best he can; but if he does so then you guys will have a very good winger for sure.
