The, eh, less over-played Christmas tunes

So, an old reliable at this time of year, but I'm trying to do up a Christmassy CD mainly comprising what would have been called indie bands in the good old days. It's to dovetail with me Best Christmas Tunes Ever mix CDs so there can be no crossover with that - that has most of the classic tunes already.

I'm looking to pick peoples' brains and fill out the CD with gems I've not heard of, with a sort of indie guitar feel but a few dance or hip-hop tunes would not go astray either. Reworkings of old standards would have to be fairly radical though. Some of the ones I have already:

    Throwing Muses - Santa Claus
Eels - Everything's Gonna Be Cool This Christmas
St. Etienne - I Was Born On Christmas Day (prefer this one to The Christmas Prayer)
    The Knife - Reindeer
    Smashing Pumpkins - Christmas Time

    and the classics:
The Dandy Warhols - Little Drummer Boy
Die Toten Hosen - Auld Lang Syne

That's the sort of thing. Any more?
Pixies doing Frostie The Snowman? Dizzie Rascal doing Mistletoe & Wine? All help appreciated.

Last Christmas - The Manic Street Preachers

James Dean Bradfield did a cover of Wham's "Last Christmas". Not a radical re-working but simply Bradfield and his trusty acoustic guitar.

You're call on that one, Stann.

    Live on TGIF, yes?

It's almost time for me to dig out Phil Spector's 'A Christmas gift for you'. That fills my needs.

Not really indie of course but Sinead O'Connors version of "Silent Night" is quite brilliant.

    Low - Just Like Christmas
Half Man Half Biscuit - It's Cliched To Be Cynical At Christmas
    Malcolm Middleton - Burst Noel
The Ramones - Merry Christmas (I Don't Want to Fight Tonight)

Anything from the Vince Guaraldi Trio album - A Charlie Brown Christmas. Great stuff.

Low, Arcade Fire, Sufjan Stevens, Bright Eyes, Belle & Sebastian all have some Christmas material out there.

Excellent, folks, ta muchly. Lots to scout out there. Keep them coming!

Have tunes from Low and Belle & Sebastian alright, and the Ramones is up there amongst the classics already. Arcade Fire though, that's intriguing.

Arcade Fire - The Great Arcade Fire

    One hot summer's day
I was playing in the arcade
I never thought I'd see flames
Rising out of my favorite games

    Great arcade fire

    I'm looking at our stage
    The lion in our cage
They lit the cage on fire
    It was supposed to disappear
Oh no, the lion's on fire

    The lion's on fire

My good god, the lion's on fire

When I was a little kid
I was sleeping in my bed
My mom said, "Wake up, sleepyhead
The house is on fire, follow me"
We ran downstairs past the burning Christmas tree

    Christmas on fire
    Christmas on fire
    Christmas on fire

My good god, Christmas on fire
    This happens every time
City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.

O'Bama - "Eerah yeah, I'd say we can alright!"

    G.O'Mahoney Trapattoni'll sort ém out!!
