Autorun.inf

When my laptop does its virus scans, recently it has been showing a threat called 'autorun.inf'. I presume the .inf stands for infection. It identifies it as a threat, yet it won't heal it or quarantine it, and to be fair, its not affecting my computers performance at all. Has anyone else encountered this?

Is there anything I can do to remove this, without having to pay silly money to a technician?

do ye honestly think that potential hackers etc would be so discreet as to create a file called .inf that stood for infection?! .inf effectively stands for instruction file its like a .properties file really. A properties file is just associated to a( another ) calling file.

Autorun.inf is associated with autorun.exe:

Thats a file normally found on CDs or DVDs.

Its normally a small text file, instructing the PC what to run when the CD/DVD is inserted.

If you're concerned about it, just delete it. And don't worry .inf doesn't mean infection.

But how do I delete it? The anti-virus doesn't give me an option to.

Does your AV software tell you where the file is located?

e.g. C:\Documents and Settings...........\ etc etc

Just go that directory via My Computer/Windows Explorer and delete the file that way.
