Sorry gspain, no, but don't go to the back of the class just yet as I figure you have the programme from the tie

I don't have the programme from the Basque game and would love it. That was actually ifk101's answer.

I assume my guess of the Norway Olympic games in 1979 is wrong too.

Did he manage the International XI that played Liverpool in 1979?

    Really guessing now.

No, it wasn't Norway or the Basques nor the team for the Liverpool tie.

    New hint

The game in question was played in Dublin, international caps were awarded by the FAI and Dunphy, despite later claim to me that he didn't, managed the team who lost 2-0

    Great question. totally baffled.

You sure caps were awarded and it wasn't underage? No 2-0 defeats in any games in 79 that I'm aware of....

It was not an underage international and yes, caps were definitely awarded.

According the the FAI site, there were no 2-0 losses of official games in 1979. The nearest 2-0 losses in official games were either a World Cup Qualifier in 1976 v France or in a European Championship Qualifier in 1980 v England. I doubt it's either of those.

Unless it was some postponed game or something like that, there doesn't seem to be a record of it anywhere. Do you have a source to back this up?

Game was not played in Dalymount nor was it a B international.

I'll sit back now until someone comes up with the answer.

I guess my other question then is was it the full Irish team (not a B / underage team etc)?

He thought you were "too old" to be at the game.
