the fai are offering way more money for the irish job than ever before and that is why the standard of manager we get should be quite a step up than who we've ever got before

yes but it wont be if the selection team goes back over old ground and selects one of these has-beens that are on the short list.
Was he crazy!! Yeah , in a very special way , an Irishman.

Just before Kerr was appointed Daglish said he was unwilling to be interviewed for the job. 2/1 means nothing. If he was 1/10 or betting suspended then believe the rumours. It would be 2 years of "you tell me" in a Scottish accent.

Ciaran, you don't get paid for the more people that open your thread so no need for the stupid title. Anyway, thread merged.

Bookies are going nuts out of nowhere, quoting odds for Daglish at 2/1, press are reporting as a sure thing.

If this turns reality the worst case scenario will have just happened.
They seem to be the only ones going nuts. Can't find anything on some reputable news sites.

Fools and their money. There's €256k plus matched on betfair on the next Irish manager. Most of it based on rumour.

The bookies odds have been going nuts left, right and centre for the last two months; at this stage I have no interest in or faith that the bookies represent the man "in the know".

Odds tumbling means nothing, what were the odds on Jewell taking the job before he eventually got appointed at Derby?

I'm happy to say why I don't rate him.

Most here agree that Coppell and Hodgson are good candidates, so it's not all negatity.

Also, your synopsis of the opinions on the candidates is a bit churlish.

I like Coppell but have my doubts....how he can stand by that Reading defence and possibly the worst keeper in premier league history is worrying....

Dalglish is revered at Anfield, and is always welcome back. 3 League titles in 5 seasons, 2 FA Cups, a double in his first season as a boss. In just 4 years at Blackburn, he won promotion, the league, and finished runner-up. At Newcastle, he finished runner-up in the league and cup in 18 months, got them into the CL and UEFA Cup too in that time. The man is a proven winner, and would be a great choice.

But no, the masses don't want him, they'd rather have wasters such as Jewell/Sanchez/Hodgson and co instead. People with "rent-a-club boss", "golddiggers", and/or "relegation candidates" written all over their faces.

But this is Ireland. We don't want to have too high expectations.

I expect Daglish to be odds on favourite early this morning as punters read their newspapers. Yet according to the Indo Daglish has not been interviewed. What the papers are not reporting is the steady flow of money being wagered on Steve Coppell the candidate we need.

    Let them wager it.

There is zero chance of appointing a current club manager. If the English couldn't, we certainly couldn't.

If you honestly think the English couldn't, I don't know what to say to you.

It was a case of why hire a club manager when you can hire a better manager who's out of work?

Cappello wasn't sacked from Real Madrid because he was ****, he was sacked because he won the league using an ugly style of play.

It would be foolish to gamble at these odds.
The Indo report though that it is believed contact has been made with Houghton, I could easily believe he is the source of any leaks.

Dalglish is the candidate with the most successfull cv at club level. It is actually outstanding apart from the Celtic stint. If he wanted the job and believed he could do it, then it would be an interesting interview.

I would rather Venables than Dagleish. At least Venners has has recent experience, it must be 10 years since King Kenny done anything in football. Another reason I don't want him is his close association with Pat Devlin.

It all just bookies nonsense. I reckon Kenny should hold his horses. Might be a vacancy in L4 pretty soon with the knee-jerk reaction thats going on this morning. At least he would get the respect he deserves from all the footballing folk there.

Your point would be that little bit more convincing if you could spell his name!
