Does any other country do this? They've gone quiet now but as soon as the Croat anthem started they started booing, and have just booed the end of it too. I remember Motson getting the hump about the Germans booing God Save the Queen in response to the English booing their anthem a few years back. Real eye opener to how blind some English are to the faults of their fellow countrymen

Quite the comedy act
"Jacques Santini...will be greeted in every dugout of the country by "one-nil, one-nil" - Clive Tyldsley, 89th minute of France-England June 13, 2004.
"Ooooohhhh Nooooooo" Bobby Robson 91st minute.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who heard it. For a minute there I thought I was imagining it because Motto comes out with the "well respected there??!!" Why the **** would you boo another countries national anthem?
"If God had meant football to be played in the air, he'd have put grass in the sky." Brian Clough.
You'll NEVER beat the Irish.......you'll just draw with us instead!!!
When Yugoslavia was reduced to Serbia and Montenegro, the Serbian fans used to boo the old anthem '' Hey Slavs'' which was played until Montenegro gained independence and Serbia now has a different anthem. The reason for that was it was deemed no longer applicable as it was the Old Six Republic Yugoslavia Anthem. They did to be fair respect opponent anthems.

Sounds like something similar to Irish fans booing Rangers players. A lot of them probably think it's cool, or it's what's done. I'd say the FA could eradicate it as quickly as we did with our problem if they wanted to.
Thought Motty was gas tonight, "please Beckham please" and "Just say something Mark" had me rolling on the floor. Plus why does that complete spare ***** Lawrenson refer to England as we? And why does he care so much? Ditto Hansen (although at least he doesn't say we in reference to England).
He supports England and Ireland. May not compute for most of us, but no reason that's the case for everyone.
Scotland certainly did it to England at 'Euro 96.
I think booing is inevitable when it's a heated rivalry, but can't understand why England would boo Croatia's anthem. Well, they got their just desserts I suppose.

Its an absolute disgrace and the Beebs failure to point it out and try to cover it up is equally bad. Look how pitch invaders or streakers are treated by commentators, 'There's some idiot on the pitch', 'Well its a shame some fool has to spoil the game like this' etc, and then you hear Motty congratulating the fans on their 'respect' for the anthem.
Please, please God we will never become like that.
Cf Ireland v England 24th February 2007 Croke Park.
Thankfully karma played its role that day too.
Holds true in life, attacking others for no good reason shows a weakness and be it directly or indirectly is counter-productive.
Like the bully in school, I'm delighted to see England get its comeuppance.![]()

They were booing the Soviet / Russian anthem in the match in September too, the Russians booed them back in Moscow - rightfully so, hell hath not fury like mother Russia scorned!
England fans have always booed the opponents anthem for as long as I can remember. I'm surprised some people think this is a new thing???

FYI, Lawrenson has frequently said on air that he's an Irishman - there was a thread on this a while back.
He's no different to Andy Gray or Alan Greene in that he's paid by the biggest broadcaster in England to comment on England games.
Motty was hilarious alright. Serves the tool right.
