    Ballon D'Or

    With Kaka collecting the trophy today, who are the greatest players NEVER to win it. I'll start the ball rolling with ;

    Ferenc Puskas
    Just Fontaine
    Jimmy Greaves
    Bernd Schuster
    Kenny Dalglish
    Denis Bergkamp
    Paolo Maldini
    Alan Shearer
    Roy Keane
    Raul Gonzalez

    add/delete

    Only Puskas, Dalglish and Maldini could lay claim to being THE best player in the world of their day

    And some of the people on the list predated the trophy if I am not mistaken......Juste Fontaine scored 13 goals in a single World Cup tournament. I think on current form in 1958 he would have been in the frame for best football player in the World at the time.

    Oh and Paul McGrath, should have won the Ballon D'or. He who made The France Football 1988 team of the year in midfield... nice one Big Jack He was in my view the Republic of Ireland's best ever player, cause he did the business as a right back, as a centre back, and a defensive midfielder, despite an alcohol problem .

    It started in 1956. Fontaine came 3rd in 58, his team-mate Raymond Kopa winning the crown.

    The Italian players asked for McGrath's autograph in the Giants in 94.
