Venebles, the FAI obviously have a lot of money on it.
Hard to say, am I the only one who feels there is more than the average amount of smoke and mirrors on this. Although the English FA are not covering themselves in glory either with their process. One thing I am fairly certain about is Big Sam is going no where, at least for another 3/4 months. NUFC have to give him time to prove he can do it. El Tel is pushing hard whilst Haan and Roy H. are dropping plenty of hints. It would be interesting to watch if it was not the FAI in charge of the whole shabang.
At the moment I think that venables is in pole position, Delaney has chosen his candidate and wants the selection team to ratify it. I do hope that changes though, as I have stated before Hodgson is my preference.

Hodgson would be off at the end of the campaign, and also a Yes man to Delaney. Houllier, Re: Charlton in disguise. The best man for the job is Mourinho, but the bloke won't be even asked, as he'd only upset JD too many times.
Why do you reckon Hodgson would be a yes man to Delaney.
In Trap we trust
In fairness to Jewell I don't think that anybody expected Derby to be anything other than relegation fodder this season except for the chairman Adam Pearson, personally I think that they were crazy to sack Billy Davies. He is a victim of his own success at gaining promotion too quickly. Also judging his first game in charge is a bit quick off of the mark, at least give the man a few games.
He managed the Swiss for two campaigns. I'm not really sure what you are basing the statement that he would be a "yes man" on.
It is no harm to ask Mourinho but if rumour is to be believed he is looking for £4,000,000 to manage Ingerland, we will have somewhere between €750,000 and €1,000,000 to offer a manager. Quite a difference.

Why do people think Delaney wants above all, a yes man?
Managers just want to be left alone with the team and have their requests/preparations taken care of. Delaney doesn´t interfere with that.
Even Delaney knows what is best for Delaney, that is to have a manager who will have success with the team.
Sadly, what Delaney wants and what Delaney does are often on two very seperate plateaus. Delaney 'wanted' Staunton until 2010, and reiterated this pretty much up to Kick off against Cyprus in Croker. (I firmly believe that even a moderate victory over the Cypriots and not losing to Wales would have allowed Delaney to retain Stan, against the nations wishes) However, it was not to be, and 4 year plan or no 4 year plan, G'luck Stan. Thank God.
Similarly, Delaney wanted no part of the interview process, and stated categorically that he wanted no contact with the managerial candidates in relation to the Ireland job.
He stated that categorically mere days before contacting Paul Jewell in relation to the Ireland job.
He probably does indeed want who he believes to be the best manager in place for the job, for some of the same reasons we do, but mainly, as pointed out in your post above, cos it would get people off his back.
My fear is tht he has involved himself so deeply in the affairs of the nation that he has begun to believe he IS Irish football, and is now unable to control himself. Perhaps it's a Mussolini complex, where he truly does believe the hype fed to him (otherwise known as the "Booo-urns" syndrome), or perhaps it's some kind of Matt Talbot fetish, where he knows his past actions mucked things up so badly that he'll wear the skin off his own hands working to make things right.
Either way, having gotten away with interfering for so long, he's seemingly no longer able to keep his nose out of team affairs, and I think any single minded manager, if impeded by this man, would simply floor him with a decent left, and promptly quit.
I dont think salary is the problem, I think John Delaney is.

On the way into the stadium, an elderly San Marino Steward waved us in and said "Tonight, may the best team win"
And they nearly did.
The FAI are willing to pay twice as much money as the Scots for the next manager. They don't necessarily need to pay more though as pretty much all their candidates are Scottish.
It has been reported that the FAI are willing to pay up to a million. Are those reports an accurate reflection of FAI intent re bargaining policy or just some wishful figures being bandied about?
Can we believe what we read? that´s the point.
This is the belief thread![]()
didnt houllier just get appointed as france technical director? think he is off the list then.
i think venebles will get the job and god help us if he does. i think i would actually cry with frustration if it happens! hodgson seems to be the man who should get it... is he actually interested?
Howard Kendall (remember him?) has now declared his interest in the job, with peter beardsley as his assistant. (from breakingnews.ie)
"No less an influential figure as Sir Bobby Robson has championed Houllier as the ideal candidate to succeed Steve McClaren, but the former Liverpool coach believes that England should look elsewhere for their saviour."

Should Bobby not be persuading Houllier of the benifits of the Ireland job, seeing as we pay his wages?
Didn't Robson's contract expire in November?
