Corner
Referee awards a corner kick.
Did you see the article in the Star a couple of weeks ago about being able to referee and play as well? I was under the impression that you were not allowed to be a referee and be a member of a club. In order to play for a club you would have to be registered. So does anyone know how this is going to work? I rang the number(Fai number), to find out and got put through to the referee department. But the coulple of times I rang there was no answer!!
Corner
Granted i know we wouldnt have any football on a sunday morning if there were no refs but come on there really are a vast amount of refs that should not be reffing games. They are a danger to the lads on the pitch. We played the last two weekends and it was only short to both matches coming to a brawl. Late tackles were let go, high feet, stampin then absurd yellow cards were given and not for these fouls( if they were even called) but for palmin down a shot then picking the ball up. Fair enough an indirect free kick, if this applies im not sure cause i never heard of it but booking the player too? Three players should have been sent off for professional fouls and another two for dangerous play. But yet the ref didnt even call fouls. The likes of another certain ref, doesnt leave the centre circle and then thinks he can call offside when his back is turned. saying that DR.Mad was right with the two refs he said, every wk they are consistant refs so there are a few out there!!!
i have to agree some people dont know rules fully
here sorry for jumping in this forum, limerick referee and at one game i did. the attacking team had goal kick and the striker was half way in opposition half while the defending team all stood at half way line. the kick was taken and all players shouted OFFSIDE ball went to striker who is now twenty yards ahead of defender runs in and scores.
The abuse i got from the opposition was unbelievable and all becuase they didn't know the simple rule you Can't be offside from Goal Kick.
No doubt there are some poor referee`s, but how many players or managers have seen a book on the laws of the game dont mind read them. What would happen if referee`s gave out to players if they make a mistake in the game !!!
My god, i know its sounds like im a sore loser but i reckon i have a case.we played top of the table on sunday morning and put up a fantastic fight only to be beaten by the ref. we went 1-nil down to a goal that didnt cross the line, our keeper made a fantastic save and the ref was 40yards out and couldnt see it, even the opposition told the ref it wasnt a goal. he then awarded a peno which in fairness was a peno, no disputing it but he then sent our lad off for it. Our best player on the day too. on top of that we saved it then went down there end and then awarded us a peno for tthe exact same thing but didnt even caution they're player. he then changed his mind and gave a free kick outside the box. He bottled it. The papers were on the side line and the other team could win the league that day. We scored from the resulting free kick so we held out till the 97th minute till they scored the winner. INjury time of 7minutes. Apart from that only two injuries occured in the second half were players had to receive treatment. I know this sounds like a rant but its soooo frustrating seeing this happen week in week out. We also lost last week due to bad refereeing decisions. He came up after the match and apologised to me but wouldnt say why!!!
Slagging off referees again. Always the easy option.
Far from slagging off the refs but there are a good few out there that need a course to go on to revise the rules with them. its just harsh when ya put so much work in and then in no uncertain terms, the refs influence looses the game. Its not a slagging match at refs cause this season ive had some great refs, lorcan white, art o toole to name too but the standard is appalling in the aul league
the standard of refs in the aul is less than acceptable, apart from 1 or 2, danny smith is by far the worst ref in the country let alone the aul, he on travels 20 yards either side of the half way line and then bottles decisions left right and center he;s far of the pace to be refing prem A
Hate to personalise it but Mr Smith is dreadful.
Plus he is about 18 stone which in itself is an insult to Premier A players who work their nackers off Tuesday and Thursday to stay in shape and get a game.![]()
What is the standard of referee's in premier B/C. Could any of those replace some of the guys up in premier A?
Of course ref`s make mistakes. So do players but referees dont give out to players for making mistakes. How many players have read a book on the laws of the game? Very few if any.
if players are to ref the game's then when are they supposed to play them selves!!.i presume your referring to ex players refing, then you'll have certain people complaining about favoritism to certain teams or players from ex players or friends, so that would mean you could only ref teams outside your league that you've no affiliation to , possibly a good idea but i don't think it will be wide spread. but god knows anything bar the ref's we've no would be a bonus.![]()
My understanding of the article is that you could referee and play at the same time- ref Saturday, play Sunday, or vice vearsa??!!
I know a referee that refereed men ssoccer who finished a season and went to manage a ladies team for the summer and got reported by a ref at one of their games. There was no conflict of interest because it was in the off-season.
There is a rule in the constituton that says you cannot be a member of a club and a referee. Even though this ref's league had finshed and he was doing this in his spare time, he was told at the hearing that it didn't matter. He got a caution and went on his own too it because his own league didn't care.
If they want to get more referees they are going to have to make a compromise, otherwise some refs might pack it in.
Which player broke his leg.
Always look on the bright side of life
Any link to a website for your league?
Also what are Dundrum like?
Was anyone at the cup final in the AUL complex last Friday? Inchicore and Whitestown were playing. Did anybody see the glass bottle thrown at one of the assistant referees after an offside decision went against one of the teams? It missed him by inches and landed on the pitch in front of him.
Referee was called over and picked up the bottle and turned to look for, I presume, an official from the league. When he couldn't see one he placed the bottle on the sideline and continued with the match.
Can't believe the AUL didn't have more people to steward the game. Think I saw three and one of those went after half time. What would have happened if the assistant referee had been struck by the bottle??!!
