Just wondering if there are many games on this weekend or is it just the AUL league, Our team has been reduced to a skelton crew for our game on sunday, its a disaster!! Absolutely gutted too last week, i'd say our pitch was the only pitch in Dublin that was actually on and it killed us. Just wondering too, if a player gets pushed off the pitch( eg, marking the keeper on a corner, and player knocks him away from the keeper off the pitch) What is the outcome, i thought it would either be a peno or allow the game to play?????? Our ref sent our player off for 3mins till the ball came back into play but we got corner after corner and he wouldnt allow him back on, is this right????

It's a bloody nightmare, its a crucial part of the season and teams are being left under-strenght because of the holidays, my take on your question is that a player has to leave the pitch when he receives treatment, he can only come back on when the ref waves him back on, this has to be done on the half way line, if he runs back on without notifying the referee then the ref can book him, so if he is already on a yellow, then he would be off.
Some referee's can be real CEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY on this matter, and the more you scream from the sideline to get your player back on, the less the likelyhood of it happening is.
however if a lad is chasing a ball, lets say a ball over the top, and he slides in to stop the ball from going over the line, but his momentum takes him off the pitch, it could be a wet day and a slippery surface, then he is entitled to get up and charge back on to the pitch.
It sounds that your ref had one of those moments were you want to trottle the bugger for giving all the wrong decisions at the wrong time

Really annoyed now, do you think the AUL may have actually given us a match this week considering we played the two bank holiday weekends when we could have enjoyed them but no they decided to give us this week off. As Easter Sunday being such a big religious day and all would it not have been more appropriate to give these fixutures a miss instead of this weekend. Sorry bout the rant but really annoyin me!!!!

no, im far from new thanks, last yr it was thurs and didnt see those new fixtures. It was a half 7 kick off last season too.

Not being smart but Mid week matches are never later than 7:00 in April or May - gets dark too early !

Sorry about that Doc!! How come they've changed to a tues, any reason. Bit strange. Last 3 seasons they were thurs and sat team played weds!!!

Its down to the shortage of refs as far as I know, they are mixing up the nights for mid week games so that refs are available ... agree with you that 6:30 is a hard call with the Dublin traffic ....

Has anyone out there got any honest opinions of the standard of refereeing in the AUL so far this season. I have heard some people give out but I have also seen some matches too.

Are clubs happy with the referees in charge of their games?

The standard of reffing is disgraceful, one of the refs we had gave a goal for our lad fallin into the net after kclearing the ball on the six yard line. thats just one of the stories i can tell ya from this season. we get another ref wk in wk out that doesn't leave the centre circle and also doesn't know how to use his cards. its effectin the lads too cause they are gettin so frustrated with the stupid decisions made by some of the refs.

You should try the UCFL refs! I'm not one to complain at a ref during or after a game, but some of them are truly shocking (and we have a few lads who will complain, a lot!). The fella today didn't know that you can't shout 'leave it', you have to call a name, when it was mentioned that the opposition did this he said 'I don't know what you're talking about'. He also only gave decisions to whoever shouted the loudest, and would decide to book someone if you complained loud enough and long enough after an incident. Gave a peno against us when our defender won a clear header, at a point where we had just gone 2-0 up despite being down to 10 men. They equalised with 3 men offside and scored a winner (which was a stunning goal in fairness), it's very frustrating when a ref doesn't seem aware of the basic rules and keeps giving everything to the team that moans at him the most.

frustrating i know lads but if they werent there none of us would be playing anything at the weekends, we need them far more than they need us or the abuse for that matter

100% agree. It's why personally I'd never have a go at any of them, was making that point after our game. Still it's frustrating when the basics seem to be missing. It makes you wonder what the training they get is like.

InExile hit the nail on the head as usual but unfortunately the standard of AUL refs is at its lowest in my opinion in 20 years I have been involved as player and spectator. Dreadful dreadful stuff with one or two notable exceptions (Alan Kelly, Lorcan White), lack of common sense, lack of knowledge of the rules, bad attitudes to players, and above all plain bad eyesight. It has worked both for and against us this season so no axe to grind. Some of the stuff you see is comical and when you hear laughter from a sideline at a refs decision surely its time for something to be done.

Then again ... who would be a ref? Not sure what they are paid but I wouldn't do it for 100 euro a match.

i agree with the part about attitudes to players, i find it worse in Dublin than anywhere else I have played in, just something simple like asking the referee what time is left or something can be met with silence, or a comment like none of your business both of which has happened me this season

I have seen some refs not speaking at all to players-giving no information to them. I know refs that love the comfort of the center circle too!! There refs I have seen at Premier A matches and have wondered how do they get appointed to those games.
The AUL must be doing something right if they are attracting back refs that are finished in Eircom lge(some still there),I dont hear any refs going to any of the other leagues.
The abuse some people give them is a bit much sometimes. Also a lot of players, managers etc dont know the rules of the game too so that cannot help.

A referee receives a fee is �42 (�24 match fee plus �18 urban allowance) with a little extra for Intermediate and top division matches. If the round trip exceeds 25 miles the urban allowance shall no longer apply but the referee is entitled to mileage at the rate of 73c per mile (starting at the GPO - Dublin only not sure of anywhere else)

This is an attitude that I don't agree with, civility costs nothing, mind you if a player has been taking the mick for most of the game, I can get a bit shirty when he asks me whats left. Not happened to me yet this season. But at the end of the day its an individual choice of the referee to tell the players or not

A problem between players/managers and referees is communication. If players or managers don't show respect, it can be difficult for the referee to show it back.

The Laws are freely available on the FIFA website but players and managers don't read them, in a lot of cases they only think they know the rules.

e.g. a defender has a direct free kick outside his own box, he passes the ball to his keeper who completely misses the ball and it ends up in the net,
